2000 Oldsmobile Alero GLS 3.4L V6 from Denmark

Summary:

Awesome design, fantastic ride quality, poor build and material quality!

Faults:

Dashboard curled, rust...

General Comments:

This is my third Alero, so far the best, but none of them had been driven very much by me.

The thing with these cars is that it's a very nice car to drive; good response, quick acceleration, nice comfort although on the harsh side, but the quality is very disappointing; the leather interior is cracking, the dashboard is curled up, the sound deadening is not sufficient. Despite that, the car is overall very quiet; at cruising speeds you don't notice the engine, only during acceleration...

The exterior quality is bad; rust is coming through in several places; the rocker panels are ready to be repaired, the rear doors have surface rust on the inside, and the hood too. Other spots are appearing... Compared to much cheaper and older European cars, it's very bad...

I'm considering making this my daily driver, but the quality issues may make me reconsider. I know it's a fifteen year old car, but for me it's nearly new :)

Just to let you know; the new car price in DK was approx. 70,000$.

By the way; the Olds Alero was sold in Europe under the Chevrolet brand, as the Chevrolet Alero! The Olds logos are still on the car, but the front logo has been replaced by the Chevy bowtie!

2000 Oldsmobile Alero 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

This car is really crappy and cheaply made

Faults:

My dash board is ripping and coming up completely.

My back passenger window is broken and squeaks when you try to roll it up.

My seats are extremely worn in the back.

I bought this car in May for 4,000, thinking it was a pretty good deal.

I came to find out 4 months later that my fuel system is going out, my car constantly overheats, even after I've replaced everything I was told to, and my transmission is now slipping and starting to go out. I would not recommend anyone to buy this car at all!!

I hate to break it to you, but you are driving a 10 year old vehicle with 136000 miles on it! That is the risk you take when you buy a used vehicle. Instead of calling the car cheaply made, maybe you should consider how the previous owner took care of this car. I'm willing to bet the previous owner also knew of everything going wrong with this vehicle, and that's why he sold it. You know, not everything is the manufacturer's fault!

2000 Oldsmobile Alero from North America

Summary:

Good with major engine problems

Faults:

The car has some very serious issues. The head gasket on it is known to fail prematurely. If you are buying this car, check for head gasket problems at a reputable shop.

Other than that, did not really experience any major problems aside from the engine.

Overall, I didn't like the car. The A/C was ice cold, unlike the Chrysler ones that tend to be softer.

General Comments:

Check the Engine... Engine... Engine.

2000 Oldsmobile Alero 6 cylinder from North America

Summary:

What a lemon!

Faults:

Pulled the car off the lot within one week, the low tire pressure wouldn't go off. Has stayed on and off since.

Replaced fuel pump, both windows, motors and regulators.

Clips now broke so windows won't roll up and down.

Sunglasses holder pulled down.

Dome light fell one day.

Trunk leaks, oxygen sensor, timing gear, alternator, water pump, changed brakes at least 6 or seven times.

Busted radiator hose, had to put new blower motor on and now only works on low.

Blinkers work when they want to, which is rarely, but if I mess with the hazard button and hold it to one side, I can get it to work.

Air conditioner replaced.

Blown head gasket.

Cruise doesn't work.

Speakers in the back quit working.

CD player quit.

Passenger seat won't lock back in place.

And oh the latest, the car is done. THE KAY FRAME IS RUSTED OUT!!!

General Comments:

Comments on the car, I don't really need to say anything else. I wrote it all. How disappointing for buying a new car.

"What a lemon!"

- The Alero is the main reason for Olds going out of business.
