1998 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro 1.8 litre turbo

Summary:

Crap! Buy a BMW

Faults:

Turbo boost seems to have gone, well most of it anyway.

Water-pump died on me.

The front left light went.

When I got the car, the rear lights did not work. It was the fuse.

General Comments:

The car is nice to look at. It's a high end model with the sport suspension, sport leather seats, 6 speaker sound system with a CD stacker in the boot. aircon/cruise control... overall it handles like it's on rails. BUT the ride in uncomfortable, and it rattles/squeaks in the inside for whatever reason. The front left door has a bad rattle in the inside of the door. Yet to be fixed.

It feels a lot slower for some reason; maybe a boost leak? :( This car turned into a $13000 nightmare!!

The clutch is slipping. I've had the car for 5 months!

The aircon does not work. It makes a weird droning noise from the engine if I turn it on.

My previous car was a bright Red BMW 535i Motorsport manual. Very rare with the M5 seats, manual, full black leather, no problems and I owned it for 2 years before moving to Australia.

1998 Audi A4 B5 turbo Quattro

Summary:

Underestimated BMW beater that's well designed

Faults:

Turbo waste-gate stuck open at 15000km, replaced by dealer under warranty, had to wait 3 weeks for a new turbo to arrive from Germany though.

Upper front right suspension bush worn at 45000km.

General Comments:

Engine is being held back by the small size turbo, the car would be much more enjoyable with extra power.

Handles well though does suffer from under steer when pushed very hard.

Brakes are very good with a great feel once you get used to them as they are touchy.

Very Good build and quality finish all round.

Very comfortable for front seating occupants, but rear seats feel cramped after an hour or two as the rear seat is rather upright for my liking.
