1994 Citroen Xantia 2.0i 2.0 cc

Summary:

Superb in everything

Faults:

Unfortunately, I did not own the car long enough for any faults to develop

General Comments:

The Citroen Xantia 2.01 1994 model was a beautiful car to drive. When one got used to the automatic transmission it was extremely responsive.

It is the most comfortable car I have ever owned, or for that matter ridden in.

Like all citroens it under-steered, but held the road like glue.

The only disadvantage was the indicator for the automatic gears, which could be better illuminated.

If you had held on to it, you probably would have regretted doing so. Agree with the excellent road holding, and the handling is soft but accurate. The ride is good, but not THAT amazing, have driven plenty of standard suspension setups that are just as cosseting.

For us, niggling electrical problems, rattles, difficult cold starting, patchy build quality and maintenance that can only be properly done by pricey dealers or specialists put us off, and we went back to Japanese. They're also hard to get parts for in NZ. Sure x-France you can get anything, but how much do you want to invest in a car worth less than 5k?

The Europeans are very enthused about these cars, they must have a lower expectation of reliability and durability than New Zealand drivers.

Stay away unless you're an enthusiast.

1997 Citroen Xantia activa sedan 2.0 turbo

Faults:

Small stuff: engine mount, brake pads (bit too often) battery, cruise control (after market)

Build quality: clips, etc break easily.

Floormat clips silly, etc.

But the "bones" of the car are great!

Greatest fault: slow hydraulics (esp. rear) but improved in later two pump models. Slow to get to pressure.

General Comments:

At the price (a very important consideration!) a great car. Performance, comfort, steering + dynamics very superior for a "budget" performance car.

Versatile interior.

High comfort levels.

Boring design compared to "real" Citroens!

Terrific compromise between a sedate family car and a performance vehicle.

1996 Citroen Xantia SX Image 2.0 litre, 8v

Summary:

A good, stylish reliable car

Faults:

New fuel pump at 65,000, and poorly done, so I broke down 3 days later outside a small rural town - luckily there was a genius at the local garage.

Spheres have been replaced twice.

New rear muffler this week.

A couple of small panel-beating jobs - car damaged while parked, including felonious assaults.

General Comments:

I love this car. I was lucky to buy it new, only regret not buying a break.

I still think it's one of the best looking cars on the road.

It's probably not quite powerful enough, but the police are very active on the roads I travel - so much the better.

The drivers seat could be more supportive. I'm surprised that it's not - my previous car was a Peugeot 505 break and its seats were fantastic.

2001 Citroen Xantia Exclusive 3.0i V6 24 Valve

Summary:

The best car in the world!!!

Faults:

None.

General Comments:

This car is the most reliable car that I have ever driven.

It runs smoothly and handles like no other car around.

The engine has a great sound and takes off like a rocket from the traffic lights.

Petrol consumption is quite good for a V6 and as for comfortability, well you'll just have to to take one for a spin.

Mine has black leather and the ergo pack (electric seats) which makes it a luxury to go for a cruise. If you ever see one for a reasonable price and in good condition you definitely get my recommendation.

Your review sounds a little bit strange mate.

If it is the best car in the world and the most reliable car, you have ever owned, why you said NO at the question, "Would you buy another car from this manufacturer?"

Our experience with the Xantia was not as glowing as yours.

Yes, the car drove very nicely and was great for long journeys, but it spent the majority of its first year with the dealers who could not fix its habit of selecting third and staying there no matter what. Frustrations with lack of factory support eventually caused thedealer to give us our money back and support us into buying another brand from within their chain and gave up the agency, it appears ours was the final straw!!

If you love the car and don't want to buy another one from Citroen, you should at lease give a reason why.
