2001 Daewoo Leganza 2.2 petrol

Summary:

Absolute garbage

Faults:

Cracked engine head gaskets and broken exhausts, which affected the fuel economy significantly. The engine constantly made a tapping noise every time I pushed the gas pedal.

Every interior trim inside the car fell apart.

General Comments:

This was my first car I've ever had, and boy I'm glad, because my overall standard for a car isn't as high, thanks to this lump of turd.

Constant oil leakage, the car stopped working twice, every trim in the interior fell apart, it was hands down the worst car I have ever purchased so far in my entire life.

So glad I got rid of it; watching that going out of my garage was one of the best experiences I've had in my life so far.

Stay far away from that car; trust me, it's not worth the stress.

2000 Daewoo Leganza SX 2.2

Summary:

It's a great car for the price

Faults:

Absolutely nothing has gone wrong with this car, except a stone cracked the windscreen and it was quickly and easily replaced under insurance.

General Comments:

I have owned around thirty cars during my life and this is easily the best.

I usually owned six-cylinder cars, but the Leganza, having four cylinders, appeared to have just as much performance and power, with very good road handling.

It is very economical to run.

I was worried when Daewoo went through a financial crisis. However, Holden took over the distribution of parts and I have been assured there is no shortage of parts in New Zealand. Also, other new Daewoo cars have been sold on the market so I don't think there is anything to worry about on this score.

1998 Daewoo Leganza SXi 2.2 petrol

Summary:

Well-equipped, very trendy, unbelievable cheap price

Faults:

Nothing that I know of. I got the car second-hand. There were several small marks on the leather, all not noticeable unless you search for them. Several very small thumbnail dents.

General Comments:

My parents brought me a 1988 Nissan Pulsar sedan after waiting for 5 months on my licence and being 17 that is a LONG wait, and as soon as it was in the yard the engine went. We got another engine from the Wrecking yard. Being a front wheel 4 cylinder my dad had never encountered on. It took us 4 hours to finally get it in. Then the clutch piece wasn't in the gearbox. I had my tantrum and the following day I came home to a 1998 Daewoo Leganza. Bring a Holden (Opel/Vauxhall) fan through and through, I didn't hold the Daewoo in high regard. Gradually its curvaceous shape and well-equipped interior deteriorated my original thoughts. It is an absolute blast to drive and the automatic gearbox is pleasantly smooth which surprised me. The engine is refined and the interior is pleasing to look at. On the whole I'm actually happy now that I didn't let a badge affect my decision about the Daewoo. I would recommend whole-heartedly to anyone to buy a Leganza. Being 17 and owning a car like that I expected to cop a little bit from my friends, but they like it. The Leganza appeals to all generations!

1998 Daewoo Leganza SX 2.0 petrol

Summary:

Bargain quality car

Faults:

Absolutely nothing, wonderfully reliable.

Only consumables like exhaust are failing (still on its original Korean battery!}

The arctic white paint is thin in places and stone chips easily.

General Comments:

Attractive Giugiaro styling.

Interior is like new, wears well. Good quality CD sound system.

GM dealer service is OK (the engine is a Holden after all)

Absolutely amazing bargain: Toyota-like quality for $$$ thousands less.

1999 Daewoo Leganza 2.2 petrol

Summary:

Absolute garbage

Faults:

The car refused to start several times.

The brake pads were destroyed and replaced twice, once at 30,000km, and again at 41,000.

Frequent oil leaks have occurred.

The speakers have started to crackle and fizz, and one is blown.

The CD player doesn't work half the time.

The windscreen wiper mechanism has worked incorrectly several times.

General Comments:

This car is an absolute piece of junk.

It has been in for several "services" but the dealership never fixed the problem.

It is shockingly slow and unreliable.

I have a 2001 Daewoo Leganza. I bought it at 36,000 miles and have had it for a while. This is a very dependable little car and I would recommend to anyone to buy a car. Maybe people should look at all the reviews before buying a car so they are not dissatisfied!

Hi, I am considering buying a used Leganza 2001 today. I have been told the seal is gone on the sunroof. Does anyone know if this is hard to do, and cheap or expensive? And any points I should look for, as I have never had a Daewoo before.

Thanks.

A nice little car

Faults:

Rear view mirror fell off window when mum bumped it.

Right scoop light smashed for no apparent reason.

A very quick 4 cylinder beast, handles very well.

Lots of leg room, and a large boot area makes this car a good family sedan for going on family outings with.
