Faults:

Lash adjusters on camshaft worn at 145000, front brakes shudder - normal for this car, but can be fixed.

ABS has been disabled from trying to start the car with a flat battery.

General Comments:

I originally purchased my 1993 EB series II Ford Fairmont Ghia because of the comfort of the full leather interior and luxury appointments, and the fact that it was fitted with LPG. It would only cost around $10 dollars to fill up the gas tank in the year 2000, and travelled nearly 400 km around the suburbs, but returned over 500 km on the highway. Have only run the car on petrol for 50km for every third tank of LPG, or when extra grunt is required.

Cannot complain about the reliability of my car; always serviced on a regular basis, and just the usual repairs that come with everyday use. I still own the car today, and don't really wish to part with it; will probably drive it until something does eventually break, or just overhaul the engine when needed.

Faults:

A number of the electric motors which operate the windows have expired.

The top of the centre armrest has come away and cannot be re-affixed.

The trip metre and odometre has stopped operating.

The struts for the boot/trunk lid do not hold the lid up.

The ceiling lining has failed completely and is held up by marker pins.

General Comments:

This is a very comfortable car to travel in.

It is a pleasure to drive for long distances.

The motor and transmission are both responsive.

Fuel consumption is acceptable for a vehicle of this size, weight etc.

The four speed transmission is more than adequate. An improvement over the previous transmission.

The straight six ford engine is a reliable, proven, solid engine. It has proved itself over many decades. With the advances of engine development it has only improved.

The braking system is solid. ABS is a must on any car. (I remember trying to pull up my 1963 AP5 Valiant on the Pacific Highway many years ago. The 225 slant six could make it go but the brakes, heaven help me, couldn't pull the Val up.)

Faults:

Replaced worn belts as alternator wasn't charging properly.

General Comments:

The EB goes as hard as my V8 XB Fairmont did, and much better than my EA Fairmont.

While the EA series 1 and the EB series 11 look virtually identical, the two cars are completely different.

The newer car is much more comfortable and has way more power.

Faults:

Blew the top radiator hose.

General Comments:

The car is in excellent condition, you would not think that it was 10 years old, however I find that it is extremely thirsty during city driving, but it does the opposite on the highway, i usually get around about 8.5-10 liters per hundred kilometers.

Faults:

Alternator broke at 3 am.

Lights have a bit of trouble every now and then.

General Comments:

FAIRMONT!!!

This car is really good and I love driving it. I don't race people as it's illegal, but I heard I can beat fairlanes quite easily.
