1984 Ford Falcon XE GL 3.3

Summary:

A top car

Faults:

Only service items such as filters, tyres and spark plugs were replaced in this vehicle. No major problems with this vehicle.

General Comments:

A great vehicle that gave nearly 3 years of reliable service.

Fuel economy was excellent for a vehicle of this size, especially with a 5 speed gearbox fitted.

Very comfortable vehicle, especially as it had factory air conditioning fitted.

This car was only traded due to the fact that it had over 100000 km put on it in nearly 3 years.

1984 Ford Falcon S pack 4.1 EFI

Summary:

Bloody great

Faults:

Replaced Alternator

Replaced Thermostat (There was no thermostat)??

General Comments:

XF's are I quite quick stock and mine is even quicker due to a 2 inch straight through exhaust system (sounds like a V8) and a 4 speedd Top loader manual gearbox. It has new heavy duty standard height suspension and components so it handles quite well and has a custom V8 radiator to help keep it cool. $750 I think that's bloody good for a first car and with the mentioned extras.

1984 Ford Falcon XE 4.1

Summary:

A car I would keep even after buying a new car

Faults:

Transmission had to be changed at approximately 300,000 kilometers, though it may have been fine for another 50,000 kilometers.

Replaced the front seat with a pair of EF seats, they look good and are very comfortable.

General Comments:

I recently painted the Falcon and hopefully I will have the entire interior re-trimmed.

I'm also thinking about putting another engine in there from the same model falcon, with a few performance enhancing modifications.

The suspension needs to be changed very badly, which when done, will help it stick to the road extremely well.

If you know how to drive such a big car then cornering is pretty good in the falcon.

1984 Ford Falcon XE 4.1 litre

Summary:

Tough low babe

Faults:

The odometer stopped working before I got it so this is what it had when it stopped working. I bought it off my boyfriend and he says that it was stopped when he got it a year earlier.

The fuel cap and I have issues which I just bought a new one recently.

Gear stick fell out.

Drivers seat is broken and propped up with boards.

Alternator and starter motor have been replaced due to trial and error in finding out why it wouldn't work.

General Comments:

I love my car. It was how my boyfriend were drawn closer to each other and I fell in love with the car as well as him. It is a tough orange color, S pack (which can be good for looks, but not for finding cheap parts for such as a new driver's seat), lowered with jellybean mags, phat exhaust and is a dream to drive.

1984 Ford Falcon 4.1 carbie

Summary:

Good, roomy cruiser

Faults:

It's been pretty good; only 3 head gaskets, warranty cam, transmission rebuild, P/S box rebuild,

plus the usual bits that wear.

General Comments:

Still tows and overtakes like it's done half as many kms.

LSD disc brake rear end works well on wet or gravel roads.

Very soft in the front and sill panels.

1984 Ford Falcon XF Wagon 4.1 Litre Crossflow 6 Cylinder

Summary:

Reliable, low-cost workhorse that won't let you down mechanically

Faults:

Odometer and trip meter broke at 186,500 kilometers.

Rear main oil seal blew. Dealer repaired.

Head gasket leaked at approximately 200,000 kilometers. Owner repaired.

Air conditioning failed twice. Repaired once by dealer.

Oil pressure gradually decreased with age. Went to 20 weight mineral based oils that fixed this problem.

Doors sagged and re-hung.

Door handles broke internally and were replaced by owner.

Windscreen wiper mechanism worn and replaced by owner.

Gear level on 4 speed manual transmission popped out.

Metallic gold paintwork has crazed.

General Comments:

This is an XF S Pack Station Wagon. Its been fairly reliable all things considered. This car has done a lot of kilometers in hot and dusty off-road conditions in the Northern Territory towing boats and getting to fishing spots.

It has excellent touring capability. The cars relatively high weight and long wheelbase make long-distance cruising comfortable.

The air conditioning system worked very well early on, but failed after 10 or so years.
