A cheap reliable car
Fuel pump needed replacing at 230000 Kms.
Power steering leak at 260000 Kms.
I have lowered the car to about 95mm at lowest point, it therefor handles the corners much better.
The car has been nothing, but reliable since I have owned it, This is why I still own it and have no intentions to sell it.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

Excellent family vehicle
All that has gone wrong since I have had the vehicle is a Low Pressure Power Steering Hose Failure. This happened while the vehicle was being road tested after being serviced, so was quickly rectified.
Replaced battery, but that is fair wear and tear.
Excellent family vehicle, have fitted a 3 seat Dickie seat to it so moves 8 people.
Very reliable, and has only let me down once when the battery failed.
Styling is still up there with the best of them.
Easy to drive both around town and on the family holiday when not only towing a trailer, but with 2 adults and 6 kids ranging in age from 7 to 18 on board.

Not a good car, would not buy another
Disc brake rotors worn out at 60,000 km.
Cylinder head replaced at 120,000 km.
AC compressor broke at 140,000 km.
Driver's seat base broke.
Alternator failed.
Starter motor failed.
Auto box failed at 200,000 km.
Engine threw a con rod at 252,000 km.
Not a very good car.
Handles poorly on bumpy corners, as the rear end steps out due to leaf springs.
Chews out front tyres badly, even though the front end is good.
No bottom end power, but plenty up top at high revs.
Spare parts are very dear.
Hard to work on compared to early pre EA Falcons 'XE, XF' etc.

I own a EF wagon and have done so for the past 3 years without any major trouble, only normal wear and tear. I bought it at 143,000 kms and now it only has 173,000 kms. It has been very reliable, I have only just replaced the battery, had the brakes and muffler done. As I said normal wear and tear and mine was an ex country company car.
Good sized and plenty of power, relaxing to drive, pity it's hungry around town
Oil Leaks in front of engine, rear of engine, and where connected to transmission. Evidently par for the course.
Car idles a little roughly, cycles a bit like a diesel.
Car hesitates when cold, revs won't increase until accelerator is pushed a bit more. Have had mechanic (s) look at and haven't solved problem. Have had new fuel filter, plugs, leads, throttle body cleaned, and fuel injection cleaner, and tune up, but still have problem. Problem disappears completely when warm.
Central locking didn't work. Faulty actuator in front LH door. New one fixed the problem.
Love the amount of room the wagon affords. No lack of power. Smooth on road. Front seats very comfortable.
Disappointed in headlights, especially low beam, lack of candel power.
My 1986 BMW bike has more illumination and it's only one headlight!
Odometer / trip meter no longer back lit, can only see in direct sunlight.
Have GL version, miss the automatic windows, should be standard in all cars.

I've owned my EF wagon for 5 years now. It has been very reliable and certainly a good towing vehicle. I advise owners to have their servicing done by specialists such as automotive engineers. If you want to avoid problems with head gaskets, change your coolant every six months, and only use the Ford approved product. My car has done 230,000 kms and is still going strong.
Try a complete chemical cleaning service on fuel system. Fixed the rough idling and missing under load on my EL wagon after doing all the other things you have had done to your car.

The EF EL series Falcons suffered from head gasket problems, but can be fixed by using AU series head bolts. Radiators however were cast in sand and clog regularily and are better off replacing with custom jobs.
