2000 Ford Falcon XR6 4.0

Summary:

XR6 is a great reliable family semi-performance car

Faults:

My power steering just died.

Windscreen washers do not work properly.

General Comments:

Compared to my previous car, a VT Commodore; The Falcon handles better and has a much better transmission than the 'slushy' Commodore transmission.

With the Tickford suspension you feel every bump, so the ride is not as smooth, but the handling is so much better that it doesn't matter.

2000 Ford Falcon AU 4.0 litre straight six

Summary:

The best car I've ever owned!

Faults:

Nothing at all.

General Comments:

Great handling, very fast acceleration.

They can go 800km on one tank of fuel!

Expensive to fill up - $60 AU$

Most comfortable car ever!

Fun to drive!

I took it on a 4WD track (through water and on a rugged track) and nothing went wrong.

Very strong.

Good towing.

2000 Ford Falcon Classic 4.0 litre

Summary:

Give an Aussie a job - buy an Aussie car!

Faults:

Has had brake discs re-ground, pads replaced front & rear.

Has a slight coolant leak from the back of the water pump.

Air conditioning switch died & was replaced under warranty.

General Comments:

Perfect car for Australia - lounging room for 4 adults, quite economical for its size if driven quietly & very relaxing to drive.

Get cruise control or you will pay the Police! 100km/h is 1,700 revs and speed creeps up.

Boot is big enough to take luggage for a holiday without encroaching on cabin space.

Build quality is good, paint exceptional.

I travel inter-state and hire many different brands of cars - none are better than this.

I agree, a great Aussie car. All the right gear for families, eg; ABS, Airbags, roomy, big boot and cruisy on the long trips. Have had a 2000 AUI Classic, from 15000KM, now at 85000KM and has been very reliable. Only, (small), problems have been a dodgy radiator cap, HT leads were replaced at 80000KM and, (of course), 2 sets of brake pads and front disc machined 2x. I've had several Falcons before and the brakes were always a worry - I don't know why Ford can't get them right. Otherwise pretty happy with it.

This car is without a doubt the worst car I have ever owned. An absolute waste of $33,000. It was gone by 2001.

2000 Ford Falcon AUII XR6 4.0L

Summary:

Look great and goes well

Faults:

The car has been pretty good. Much better than the EL I used to have.

Only real problem has been wheel alignment, but that is largely due to me getting used to the wider tyres and the sensitivity to the camber of the road.

General Comments:

The performance is pretty good.

Handling is great. It really sticks to the road, although the limited slip diff takes some getting used to in the wet!

Looks different to the standard Falcon, unlike the Commodore offerings.

Auto shifts nicely, but I should have gone for the manual.

Reasonable quality stereo.

They were also called Millennium Falcon; well everyone in my town did at least, but it's still funny when one of your friends say "I got a ride in a Millennium Falcon!!" and they get really weird questions afterwards.

2000 Ford Falcon AU XR6 4.0 Litre Six Cylinder

Summary:

Better luck next time Henry

Faults:

The doors do not line up straight.

The factory fitted LPG tank was improperly mounted.

The accelerator cable snapped on heavy acceleration.

General Comments:

The car has stable handling taking in to consideration it's size and intended use as a family hack. Fitted with a V8, it may make a decent attempt at being a cop car.

Brakes are superb, stops on dime, for a little while, then it comes time when you wish there were holes in the floor to deploy the Flintstone Braking Technique.

Sound system is lacking credibility. Main rival Holden's sound system is of a much higher quality.

Uncanny shape of dashboard, love it or leave it.

Should have kept the Commodore...

A sad reflection on Australian manufacturing if a car as supposedly advanced as this can still be so poorly put together.

Time will tell, but I wonder if the AU's bumpers will be falling off like every other Falcon since the EA... come on guys, how much do a couple of extra screws cost?

I have an XR6 2000 au. Bought it in late '08 for $10000, spent $5000 on it, none to the motor that is, it's the best car I've ever owned, and I've had them all!! I have not had one problem with it, you won't get any problems outta them, you just have to keep the services up.
