2005 Ford Falcon Futura mk 11 4.0 petrol

Summary:

Good car

Faults:

I have had this car for nearly a year, and other than a slightly worn battery, which I replaced, nothing has gone wrong at all.

The only minor problems I've had with car, was when I got the 75000 kilometre service with Ford, they overadjusted the handbrake cable, causing the rear brake to drag (after a couple of days) and they also left the air intake fittings loose and leaking, which I then had to take the car back and leave with them again to fix properly, which was a big hassle for getting to work and back.

General Comments:

The car looks very good, and is a very nice blue pearl without a scratch. Also the interior is immaculate, and I think looks much better than most of the more expensive Japanese cars.

I also fitted better iridium plugs, typhoon airbox snorkels with hi flow air filter, and the car goes great and is very easy to drive, and a truly excellent car for the money.

Well that's not exactly a fault of the car, rather a fault of the idiots who are getting paid $110 an hour, and yet still can't do a basic servicing job. I'll always service my car myself, I can't trust these brickhead overpaid mechanics, people who don't realise they are being paid VERY well, and yet still only put minimal effort into their work.

2005 Ford Falcon Futura 4.0

Summary:

Good value

Faults:

I haven't had any problems with the car, other than minor clunks in the suspension when turning slowly or cold.

General Comments:

This Falcon is very nice, comfortable, and everything like the A/C, stereo, power windows, gearbox all work very well.

I think it's great and cheap, with heaps of power (182kw) plus the mods I have done, it can turn into a real drivers car with heaps of grip and power, as I have experienced this many times with this super great car, which is willing to take it all the way to the limit.

2005 Ford Falcon XR6 4.0L NA

Summary:

Perfect for me

Faults:

Boot rubber split on right side. To be replaced.

Leather on gear stick coming away. To be replaced.

General Comments:

This is my second BA XR6. The original was an auto. This is a 5 speed manual. It was pre loved.

The first time I sat in this car, I knew it was for me. Everything was how I like it. That was 3 months ago, and today when I sit in this car I like it.

It’s a 4L NA. (non turbo). I know the Turbos and V8s have a lot more power, and yes at times I would have enjoyed that extra power to play with when climbing a hill, but when all is said and done, for me this is the right combination. (I have owned 351 and I’m over it) There is more than enough power for my needs.

This car was a special order for a company executive and has all the top options fitted.

Interesting to find it’s a 5 speed, where as 6 speeds were available and the norm in 2005???

The leather seats are excellent and hold me in place, whereas the standard velour seats are no where near as good. The sound system is the Premium model. It is great where as the standard system just does not do the job. This car has in built Sat Nav, which I think is OK until the day I asked about replacing the map DVD (V10) from WhereIs. $400 new they said, which is a joke. I will not be replacing it at that cost so the UBD remains in the car.

The head and tails lights are all excellent, although the alleged fog lights are in my opinion, useless.

Their only value is for idiots who love to drive around with them on even in sunshine. Fog lights in name only.

I do get annoyed at the front bummer bar as the lower section is low (close to the ground) and does at times strike things.

The engine is very quiet. I can't believe it's running at times. Am I strange? I can’t wait for the exhaust to get a hole in it so that I can fit a louder one, because that is the one thing this car needs. A better exhaust note when powering up a hill.

Overall I am very happy, and would not go back. I have even arranged an extended warranty, which is good value as the more technical cars become, the more that can go wrong.

I find the spot lights perfect for daytime running. Especially when driving a gunmetal grey - ie tarmac coloured - Falcon XR6, at speed, with grey skies. Same applies to my black Ranger, which has a similar setup. There have been times when I am halfway through a passing maneuver to find a grey or black car barreling towards me, with their lights off.

They are only fog lights if you fit a yellow lens. These are available from your Ford dealer. But as NZ and Australia have minimal problems with fog, it makes much more sense to have close range running spots.
