1995 Ford Telstar

Summary:

Reliable

Faults:

Nothing of significance has gone wrong with this car.

Windscreen washers tend to block up, which is a nuisance. I've installed an inline filter to stop this.

General Comments:

I maintain this car generally in line with the owner's manual, but do most of the regular work myself.

This means change oil & filter, check and top up other fluids, spark plugs, coolant change, light bulbs, etc.

I get the mechanic to do major stuff like cam belts and brakes.

I've kept an eye on everything, and replaced parts before they cause problems. For example, I have changed rubber hoses and the accessory belt before they failed.

I install a new cam belt kit, instead of just the belt - that means tensioner and idler, seals, etc.

I am about to do the same with the water pump.

Flush brake fluid and change coolant periodically.

The car has 300,000 km on it, and seriously I've had no problems.

1995 Ford Telstar TX5 V6

Summary:

Keep it serviced and replace parts when needed, don't leave til later

Faults:

Engine blew up two weeks after I got it. Cheap radiator had been put in and the sides split!!! Not the car's fault; it was the person who put a cheap radiator in such a great car.

Engine with 90,000 clicks sent to replace other engine from dealers in NSW... no charge.

Tacho counter (stuck).

Nothing else major.

General Comments:

Beautiful looking car, lovely body.

Is on low profile tyres with great mags, looks amazing.

Powerful little car to drive.

Very quick response on changing down on gears.

Fast uptake.

Really comfortable to drive.

I was going to sell it and buy a smaller car.

Can't do it... can't bear to part with my TX5.

Hope it runs for another 250,000.

I will keep my "Teerex" until he coughs his last breath!

1995 Ford Telstar Eurosport 2.5 Liter V6

Summary:

A wolf in sheep's clothing

Faults:

Nothing so far. Everything that was wrong as far as the pre purchase inspection was fixed by the dealer.

General Comments:

In 1995 Ford NZ shoe-horned a 2.5L V6 into the body of their 2L 4cyl Telstar sedan, chucked some large tyres on it, put sports seats and Momo trim inside and called it the Eurosport.

This car is an excellent compromise between comfort and performance.

It is an easy car to drive.

It's an excellent point to point performer and inspires a great deal of confidence in its road holding ability.

Only gripe is that it could use a bit more top end power, but that can be solved with an aftermarket air-cleaner and exhaust system.
