1993 Holden Calibra YE 2.0

Summary:

Wish someone told me how expensive parts for this car are, I would have never had bought it

Faults:

Transmission needed replacing.

Steering rack needed replacing.

Exhaust needed replacing.

Door trim fell off.

Rear view mirror kept falling off.

General Comments:

This car was my first real car and I ended up putting a lot of money into it. Just fixing things.

Parts for this car are so expensive.

Plus insurance on this car will cost you an arm and a leg.

This car is very sexy car though. Awesome interior. Power windows, sun roof, bucket seats.

Runs smooth.. never had a problem with the engine.

1993 Holden Calibra 2.0

Summary:

Don't be fooled by its looks, it's utter rubbish

Faults:

Almost everything.

Terrible electrics; bulbs used to blow out at regular intervals.

Heater core cracked 4 times in 2 years.

Sunroof stopped working.

Fuses blew at regular intervals.

General Comments:

Dog of a car.

Don't be fooled by the stylish looks and lovely interior, this car is a dog.

The only good aspects of the car were a neat clean cockpit like interior, and a great gear box.

The electrics in all of these cars are rubbish (try finding one on the road where all the lights are working).

Heater core cracked 4 times; Holden couldn't fix the problem and refused to do any work under warranty.

Engine is sluggish, but sounds nice under acceleration. Gear box is in great, shape, short throws and clean, and the clutch is good and strong.

Interior is great, clean and cockpit like, the car looks great, but just doesn't perform and is unreliable.

1993 Holden Calibra YE 2L 16v

Summary:

Rare, sporty and economical- I'm in love!

Faults:

I have heard plenty of comments about the Calibras' steering capacity and it certainly feels quite loose. I'm encountering power steering problems when I turn to the right (its really tight, then whips around) and the car is cold (but ONLY when it is cold). No one can seem to fix it... apparently the steering does not recognise that I am turning until a certain point.

Recently I have problems with it not starting at random occasions. This was due to a faulty fuel relay switch.

I have heard the Calibra has problems with rear internal tyre wear and this is because of its older commodore rear suspension. If you are going to lower them, you need to invest in a camber kit otherwise the wear is chronic.

General Comments:

I love this car. Not particularily fast off the mark, but it has some serious punch at higher revs. The Calibra was built for the Autobahn and is particularily nimble at the higher speeds. This car does what I want it too- the body styling (sleek coupe) turns heads and its the fastest 4cyl I have driven in a long time- I only paid 6,000 for her which I consider an absolute bargain.

My primary gripe is that she is a bit heavy, boot and bonnet, the doors especially are hard to open as you sit so low in the car.

For a 1993 model it has some serious fruit including full electrics, fog lights, sunroof, air con, motion sensor alarm, dead locking, heated wing mirrors and power steering.

Favourite feature is its rarity- not many around at all.

Not so favourite feature is its rarity, a body kit will (although look really really hot) cos me 3,000 that's not including fitting or painting.

1993 Holden Calibra YE 2.0 16 valve twin cam

Summary:

Fast 4 cylinder car (235kph so far)

Faults:

Clutch, crank angle sensor, central locking, hood lever.

General Comments:

Crank angle sensor in the process of being replaced, central locking passenger door is female and only works when it wants to, one inch of slack with six inches of friction on the clutch, runs hard and fast.
