1988 Holden Camira SL/X 2.0 litre

Summary:

Good little car with good power, and handling I find it reliable. I would go for a manual camira

Faults:

Small vibrations at idle.

A little hard to get into 1st gear.

Slight knock on right hand side when turning.

General Comments:

The Camira 2.0 litre has surprisingliy a lot of power for a small car.

The car handles well at low and high speeds.

The camira 2.0 litre is not too bad on fuel costs, I drove it from Melbourne to Adelaide on just on one tank of fuel.

I find this model camira to be a reliable car with not too many major problems and very good power as I keep up or beat most six cylinder models of the same year.

This camira also has very roomy boot space, like most size six cylinder cars.

Camira's are a very reliable car. Not only for getting from A to B, but very powerful for a 4. no problems in a long time and only small when there is.

I have had two a JD and JE. Both went well and good on dirt roads (i live in the bush) Both seem to have had clutch problems, but that's a pretty simple fix for these models as gearbox doesn't need to come out.

Runs well, no knock, roomy wagon, power is ordinary, but who cares (2Litre EFI), great on fuel. Electrical a bit shoddy IE dash warnings lights, brake light, but it doesn't stop it from going at all. gearbox a little awkward, but you get used to it quickly, an bit of a pain to find 5th.

NO CARS ARE PERFECT don't forget. They all have little isues.

Overall great value for money and I reccomend them.

1988 Holden Camira JE 2.0 litre

Summary:

My pride and joy

Faults:

Ignition barrel tumblers needed replacing.

Left hand rear tyre brake cylinder needed replacing.

Fuel pump wiring faulty.

"jerks" after being driven for a while, have to stop, kill engine, then re-start, build up revs, before it will drive properly again.

General Comments:

Even though a lot has gone wrong with this car, it is a joy to drive. It handles easy, and the bonus for me, because I happen to be only 5ft 2, is I can easily adjust the seats, so I drive in comfort.

I have had other cars, including 2 commodores, before I brought this one, I swore I would never buy another holden, but this car has definitely changed my mind.

1988 Holden Camira SL 2.0 fuel injected

Summary:

Perfect starter car

Faults:

The only serious problem I have had with this car is air in the break lines, however this took me about 30 minutes to fix.

I have had to replace the spark plug leads because one of them broke, I think they were still the originals.

The grip on the wheel has started to work it way lose.

General Comments:

The Camira has a very bad reputation; I bought one and have had no problems that aren't to be expected with such and old car.

This car has beaten my mates Nissan Skyline off the mark and into his third gear change.

As for handling I would say it is a little above average for a station wagon and still has some get up and go at 100 kilometers, I have made about 140 but that was before I dismantled the engine and cleaned it all up I think it would do about 190-200 now.

Wow 200km sounds good and I'm sick of all the crap I get from other car drivers. but my mighty camira will give any car of its age a caneing. but it is the driver that makes the car and if you respect the camira, breath with the camira and become one with the camira you will fly with the camira.

Performs well

Faults:

Had to replace the left hand CV joint.

General Comments:

Don't laugh when you see this Camira. I have pulled a 100 kilometers out of second gear and out ran an RX7 rotary.
