Hey man,

Don't worry about a thing, Holdens are a man's car and they'll go for as long as you change the oil. Holdens are the best car made.

Long live the Commodore!!!

The 1981 VC Commodore is not only a man's car. I own the 4.2 V8, 4spd manual VC and I'm very much not a man. It is an awesome car. I have had problems with the front and rear windows, tail shaft and the diff. The previous owner was dodgy and neglected this fine piece of car. But with a bit of money, patience and time, she'll be great once again.

1981 Holden Commodore SL/E 3.3 litre

Summary:

The poor man's (or P-Platers) HSV

Faults:

Nothing really has gone wrong with the car, other than it broke down one day after school, but that was the result of someone tampering with it.

The interior is starting to wear a bit though, mainly around the console between the front seats, mostly around the back of it.

General Comments:

Great looking cars, when you crash them like I did they are simple and cheap to fix.

1981 Holden Commodore VC SL 3.3 L

Summary:

Methanol burning beast, these things should be illegal

Faults:

Snapped engine mount.

Nothing else because it is such a beast.

General Comments:

SL/E interior added.

It's such a weapon, she hangs out nice on a wet day when I can unleash the grunt.

Tears up a footy oval like you wouldn't beleive.

The VC SL has a fine combination of power and comfort all in a convenient sized package.

The 3.3L can be made to sound deep and stuff with a good fat exhaust.

Ignition switch is wearing out.

General Comments:

Cheap to run.

It's fun to drive with a manual.

Handles well for its age.

Parts readily available anywhere.

Great first car.

1981 Holden Commodore VH 3.3 petrol

Faults:

Had problems with heater core, alternator, tailshaft, starter motor, front suspension, petrol hose tank leaks, fuel pump, water pump and small electrical problems.

General Comments:

Although I have had many problems with my particular VH Commodore, it has never left me anywhere and always taken me to my destination. Compared to problems with other cars, VH parts are the cheapest. I would recommend this car to buyers that are willing to spend money on the car remembering it is nearly 20 years old.

I own a 1983 VH Commodore SL and it has proven to be a very good car, yet I cannot understand how you can rate the running costs as 9/10. Being a leaded motor and with the price of petrol at the moment I feel a rating of 6 is more appropriate.
