1986 Holden Commodore VL 3.0 litre RB 30

Summary:

A Definite 'P' Plater's choice, An outstanding Car!

Faults:

Steering Rack was due for replacement when purchased, so took to garage and got a new boot fitted.

Engine got gummy injectors mainly due to sitting for long periods of time. Thanks to previous owner who obviously didn't harness the beauty and pleasure of these cars. Took to mechanic to fix also.

I've got a modified exhaust so exhaust rubbers snap occasionally.

These things happened some time apart so overall a strong, reliable performer which definitely helps on the P Plates which I am on at the moment.

General Comments:

A good looking, reliable, strong performer of a car. Everyone who knows about Australian cars gets a VL for their first car.

Strong grip on road, good performance, good stereo, nice looks. Does not get better for first car.

They pull the ladies no worries also. And drag off mates in Queer Boy piles like Silvia's, Camry's, Falcons etc.

Top Car mate, I own one myself. A definite Milestone in Australian Performance Cars. A 1980's car that is as ever popular today and still has the go to match. A superb Holden car that is the BEES KNEE'S.

1986 Holden Commodore Sedan 3.0

Summary:

Kick ASS First car

Faults:

Blew an air flow meter

Air Conditioning Doesn't work

New power steering rack put in

Rides a bit rough.

General Comments:

Great first car could not have asked for any better. Turns heads when you accelerate hard, great sound through the extractors and 2.5 inch exhaust system. Pulls the ladies out runs all my mates cars. My first car and I can't complain I want to get a car with a V8 though just because I want more balls. If anyone knows of a Holden HZ Ute manual 4.2L V8 in Sydney please E-mail me joeyss_69@hotmail.com. You need a stereo in a cool car put Cd/mp3 player in it 6 by 9's 3 way splits in the back and 6inch two way splits at the front. Good bass, but not like a Lebanese moving nightclub.

1986 Holden Commodore VL 3.0 litre Nissan

Summary:

Great Looking, Cheap Car

Faults:

Windscreen had to be replaced.

Rust under the windscreen, boot and spare tyre well.

A/C doesn't work.

Back indicators blow regularly.

Sluggish under full throttle.

Costs heaps in Fuel.

Interior Light only turns on when High beam is on.

Bit tricky getting into Reverse.

Handbrake cable needs tightening.

Strange high squeal noise at high revs.

Extreme heat from muffler into the boot. (Once melted a hole in the bottom of my mates bodyboard... he wasn't happy)

Figure 8 exhaust mounts often break, probably due to the heat of the exhaust.

Front shockies leaking fluid.

General Comments:

Colour coded pure white with mafia tint. Nice plain looking car. 15" 4 spoke mags. extractors into a 2.5 inch exhaust. Never had cooling problems, never had oil problems. Very reliable, never missed a beat.

1986 Holden Commodore VL 3.0 RB30 E.F.I

Summary:

Very reliable and high performance car

Faults:

The only problem I have had is the fuel gage indicator faulty.

Apart from that virtually nothing.

General Comments:

These are good reliable cars with and quick enough engine to beat the average, everyday car.

The interior is not the most classy, but it was built in 1986.

Parts are very easy to pick up for these cars and improvements on performance are easy tasks.

These are low on work and are easy to repair basically a good car all round.

1986 Holden Commodore VL Executive 3.0 Litre, Straight 6

Summary:

Cheap performance

Faults:

Power steering rack replaced at 172,000.

Diff replaced at 174,000.

General Comments:

Best Commodore ever made.

The Nissan RB30E is a very powerful motor.

The car is very comfortable for an 18-year-old motorcar.

The 3 piece front bumper is a bad design, which flaps around when speeds exceed 100km/h.

Watch for rust around the front and rear windows.

The fuel pump makes a strange bubbling noise when tank starts to run low.

1986 Holden Commodore SL rb30 petrol

Summary:

A neat and tidy old girl

Faults:

Hi I'm Chris and I bought a VL Commodore as my first car 2 years ago, however Iam getting older and wanting different things like more power, I have added a 2 1/2 Exhaust and a K&N Air Filter. What do you suggest to me about getting that little bit more power, I was thinking extractors and a camshaft, can you recommend me a type of cam shaft that would suit my car.

General Comments:

It is a very reliable car, neat and tidy that is the main reason I bought the vehicle.
