Summary:

The car appears to be a great all round sports car, best for 2 people

Faults:

There has been an annoying Rattle in the dash since buying this car.

The air pressure that comes from the Climate Control Air Conditioning seems to be varied between left and right sides of the car, and poor flow to the rear.

Power Steering pump mechanism has failed after boiling the fluid and the pump appears to no longer function.

General Comments:

This car is extremely quick, with excellent traction.

Excellent handling around all types of bends, even in the wet.

Ride is smooth for a performance car, no harch bumps.

Car lacks front and rear passenger hang on handles for support in extreme conditions.

Front seats do not come far enough forward for elderly rear seated passengers, seems to be adequate for younger types.

Poor old sound system, sounds very muffled, does not come close to a Ford Premium sound system.

Leather option is of great quality, nice smell look and feel.

Extremely disapointed about the "green" old commodore illuminated dash, it is a little old and dated.

Great set of dash instruments, such as Fuel used, avg fuel consumption etc.

Insufficient boot space.

Great wheels and rubber.

Sounds like a V8, first holden to sound like this in a long time.

The problem with the A/C its dual climate control and the passenger and driver, can have set to what temp and fan speed they would like coming out of their vents. Has this idea been thought of or is not the problem???

Unfortunately its not the issue, there is just one Fan speed throughout the car, yes you are correct when you say it has duel climate control, however even when set to the same temp, the pressue or Air Flow output varies from side to side, and has VERY minimal output in the rear. Since I wrote this report I have minced a set of tyres (lasted just 18,000km's). Also had the Centre Console Snap off its base as a passenger was exiting the vehicle, the Power Steering pump was replaced after the previous malfunction.. However I Still love being able to Launch at the traffic lights (Yes a Porsche or WRX would probably eat me alive, but its all good fun...)

Oops, I forgot to add, I had a couple more Minor issues which holden are still trying to fix or have fixed..

1. Engine Waring Sensor - Every 2 Minutes a Warning Chime goes off on the dash telling me to service the vehicle soon, after 3 visits to the dealer and 2 days off the road, it turns out some hoses needed adjustment.

2. Reverse Sensors - Eeeek, I want to blow these things off the face of the earth!! hehehe What I mean is that I have a factory fitted tow bar, and when the car feels like it, it will work, and when it want to get at me, it leaves the reverse beeper permanently on when the car is in reverse!! I do about 1000Kms a week, so as you can imagine, there is a load of reverse parking, so in turn a load of frustration, Holden suggest I remove the bar when not used.. I don't think this is a fix.. Just a way to keep me off their doorstep..

General Comments:

Excellent performance and comfort.

2002 Holden Monaro CV8 5.7 Gen III

Summary:

A gentle beast

Faults:

Rattling Dash Cluster.

The tensioner pully was noisy, fixed, but still noisy.

Top radiator hose leaked and had to be replaced.

Gear knob replaced because it was loose.

The handbrake button stuck inside leaver.

Handbrake rattling when pulled up (I'm waiting 5 months for a part to arrive from Melbourne, I'm in Sydney)

Car had no electrical power at all, twice.

Top radiator hose got sucked in, had to be replaced...again.

And the list goes on, I think you get the point.

General Comments:

This car had so many problems, but Holden fixed nearly all of them and I still love the Monaro. When it first came out, it got more looks then Ferrari's.

For a sports car, the comfort is excellent, so is the price. I don't think you can get a more luxurious sports car for under $140000.

Handling is brilliant, but a bit wobbly when changing directions suddenly.

Safety, well nothing much to say about that, it just got 4 stars a few weeks ago.

I heard that the quality got much better in series 2 and 3.

I probably will end up getting the VE based Monaro in 2006, but 'series 2'.

I've had a series 1 Monaro CV8 for 2 years, and would agree that although there were more things to be fixed than initially expected, the looks, handling, and comments I got made up for the negatives. I recently drove from Adelaide to Darwin, and drove at speeds of up to 220 in the NT, the handling was SUPERB, cruising at 160 to 180 felt like normal highway speeds. No problems were had at all on the trip. The only really annoying think is the amount of water that runs into the boot after heavy rain, when you open the bootlid. Can anyone advise on what to do?

2003 Holden Monaro CV8 Series II 5.7 litre V8

Summary:

Poser, powerful, great styling

Faults:

Recall for faulty fuel gauge.

Door trim came off.

Window seals had to be replaced. After driving it two days, after I got it in heavy rain and water started pouring in through the A/C vents.

Recall for faulty seat wiring for the electric front seats.

Just after this, the entire system packed up, with the seat all the way forward and elevated. The car had to be taken on a truck as no-one could drive it.

General Comments:

Great interior, although the finish is at times questionable.

The seats are terrific, both front and rear. The rear bucket seats are great.

Handles brilliantly, although the rear wheels squeak very easily.

V8 is brilliant, much better low down torque than previous my VTII Calais Gen III.

Great pose value, and great paint work (purple haze) with matching leather!

Anybody out there had problems with gear shift stick and gearbox with 2002 model Holden Monaro CV8? Our Monaro has done only 40,000km and has been really well looked after - not abused in any way. We are now told it needs a new gear box and are in a state of shock. Would appreciate hearing if anyone else had problems such as this and how they dealt with it. Needless to say out of warranty, but we honestly believe this is not good enough for a car of this specification.
