1982 Holden Statesman WB Deville 5.0 V8

Summary:

It's a classic

Faults:

Car is dual fuel, but runs terribly rich, and blows black smoke under throttle on petrol.

Valves worry me a little, and there's a lot of ticking coming from the motor. I use the lead replacement additive, but am not sure exactly how often I should run the car on petrol. I mainly use LPG.

Paint job is a bit dodgy, but interior is very good considering it's 27 years old.

Brakes have started to become really noisy - will be investigating to see if a stone has lodged between the pad and disc, as the brakes shouldn't be worn yet.

General Comments:

It continues to be referred to as "a tank" or "the iron lion". I refer to it as the "old girl".

Cruises well and without the ridiculous rear resonator, the twin pipes sound great. Reckon that a VK Group A system would be better!

Needs a set of wheels and tyres. I have the original De Ville hubcaps at present running Bob Jane All Rounder 215 65 14s.

1982 Holden Statesman WB 5.0 V8

Summary:

Comfortable tourer

Faults:

Lost LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) pressure due to a stripped wing-nut.

General Comments:

This car is very comfortable.

Mine was on gas and so it was more economical then my previous car, a 1996 Acclaim.

I sold it because I didn't have the room, and I very much regret it now.

1982 Holden Statesman Caprice WB 5.0 Litre V8 308

Summary:

A fantastic highway cruiser

Faults:

I had to get a new fuel pump at 315,000 km.

I needed the hoses and thermostat housing replacing at 318,500 km as the old ones were deteriorated very badly.

Other than that, nothing's ever gone wrong.

General Comments:

This car is absolutely fantastic.

The seats are the most comfortable I have ever sat in, and the leg room is very good.

The V8 is powerful, although the 1650kg car is a bit slow off at the lights, but once you're moving, it's great.

This car is fantastic and although it's my first car, I think it will be my last!
