2001 Hyundai Accent 1.5L DOHC
Summary:
Not for the home mechanic, too reliable
Faults:
RH Rear wheel alignment was slightly out. It may have been due to rough roads and only took a couple of minutes to adjust.
Battery died after 3 years. If I used the car daily it would likely see another couple of years, but I don't.
General Comments:
I've had 3 super reliable years out of this car, even the Air Conditioning hasn't needed any servicing.
I'm starting to get some concern about the gearbox though. Often the syncro's don't appear to be doing their job properly so I double declutch in order to make things smoother. Part of the problem may be because most of my driving is long Highway stuff that doesn't require gear changing. The box may need some more breaking in yet.
The handling is fine if not razor sharp.
Brakes are quite adequate, but not outstanding.
Fuel economy is pretty good. Without the A/C on I see 6l/100km.
The engine has a good spread of torque with plenty available at normal cruising speed.
I find the seats very comfortable and the fit to the pedals and wheel excellent, however I have short legs and find all Asian cars fit very well, unlike the local cars built by American companies. I'd probably say the opposite if I had longer legs. I think the only way to make to car more comfortable is to make it bigger, but that would ruin the whole concept of a small car.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I've got a 2000 accent gs. I agree with the rattling. mine rattles, but its not so horrible I can't stand it it just gets somewhat annoying at times. last tune up and oil change I had fixed most of the problem. I was hoping I wasn't the only one with that problem. other than that its been a great little car.
