2010 Hyundai i30 Trophy 2.0 petrol

Summary:

Not what I expected

Faults:

Due to the relatively short time we have owned the vehicle, we cannot actually fault the car's credibility, but for what we were led to believe, we have some misgivings.

The road noise is very noticeable, and the driver's seat has now lumbar support.

For the dealership to give such a short demo drive (3kms), one has no real feeling for the car's ride.

Hand brake set back is something to get used to, and the sluggish pick up is a bit of a concern.

I could go on about personal dissatisfaction with the vehicle, but it would be directed at the dealership, not the vehicle.

Would I buy another Hyundai; probably not. Pickup, noise and general misgivings from the dealership.

Would I recommend it as a first car; yes, it's a safe car around town.

Lastly, as car for older people; yes, it's nimble in supermarket car parks, but for me, nah, can't even trade it. A $25,000 car with 300km is only worth $13,000 back to the same dealer.

General Comments:

Road noise is noticeable.

Seats have no lower support.

Hand brake quite away back.

But turns on a dime.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

The handbrake may be able to be adjusted; check your hand book if it's a self adjuster.

The road noise could very well be the tires; you'd be amazed at the difference tyres can make.

2009 Hyundai i30 1.6 turbo diesel

Summary:

A good purchase

Faults:

Nothing so far, and hopefully nothing major ever.

General Comments:

The car is comfortable, powerful for the engine size and economy is great. The first tank of fuel gave me just off 1000km, with a combination of city and country driving.

I tow a boat, with an all up weight of 800kg and the i30 goes well. I will admit economy is around 600km, with a head wind, but still better than the RAV4.

Overall, the finish of the car is very good, and for the money I believe you get a fair amount of car. if the economy stays at around 1000km per tank, then I will be very happy. The power when overtaking is great, the turbo spools up very fast and away you go. Hills, the i30 eats hills.

If you don't like Hyundai's, I would say, at least go for a drive and go up some hills, you will be surprised. On dirt the car is also predictable and feels safe.

Good job Hyundai, there are not many four cylinder cars that can tow a boat and give great economy at the same time.

Well, I have now had the car six months, and the i30 is going well. Kilometers covered to date are just over 18,000km.

OK, the bad stuff first, but only minor things.

Firstly, when living in a hot climate like south Australia, the oil should be able to handle the likely temperature during the hottest of months. The car started overheating when towing the boat with 46 degrees. Did not go into red zone, but rose a fair bit. After looking at the hand book, the oil that is standard for i30 has a max range of 40 degrees, so this type of oil is not good for many aussie conditions. Hyundai does recommend another oil that will handle 50 degrees, so before summer this is what I will ask for.

A few squeaks, near the front passenger grab handle, small annoyance. Other than that, all good so far.

However I am still impressed by the power, it is great and economy is still around the 900km per tank. I could get better, but I put the foot down due to the turbo, and enjoy the surge.

Anyway, if you're thinking about the i30, I would still recommend on giving the car a look and a drive.
