2009 Hyundai i30 SX 1.6 turbo diesel

Summary:

Fun, economical and good looking!

Faults:

Unusual engine vibration in third gear at 2000 to 2700 RPM. Usually on uphills.

General Comments:

Very comfortable and supportive front seats.

Good leg room front and rear for a car of its size.

Excellent head room. I'm over 6ft and I still have space above my head.

Road noise inside the cabin is very low.

Stereo system is fantastic! Pumps hard! Although seems to have a LOT of bass even with EQ settings set to flat. Sounds like there is a subwoofer somewhere!

Engine has lots of torque and pulls very hard. Handles a full load of people and luggage like a 6 cylinder sedan.

Fuel economy is amazing. I regularly get 600km from a 50L tank. The car will easily cover more kilometres if you only do highway driving.

The handling of this car is excellent. Suspension is firm but not uncomfortable. Goes around corners quickly. In combination with ESP stability control, it's almost impossible to stuff up!

2009 Hyundai i30 SR 2.0L petrol

Summary:

Pure Awesome!!! What more can I say!

Faults:

Absolutely nothing in 12 months. Touch wood.

General Comments:

This car is Awesome.

I still get excited when it's time to drive somewhere.

It's very comfortable on short and long trips.

It's surprisingly quick and handles very well.

I've got the Top of the Range SR model with all the sporty luxurious features, which make the i30 great value.

Performance from a red light is great, but a bit iffy if wanting to overtake at say 90km/ph, but acceptable for me.

Air con works so well that after the car has been in 40 degree heat, it takes about 2 minutes till it's cool.

Sound system is fantastic; I connect the iPod up and control it straight from the head unit. It even charges the iPod.

Hyundai have come along way, and I am looking forward to seeing their 2010 model line up. They're only a baby compared to other car makers, but they're definitely up there with the quality and safety. Well done!

If you want a great car that is not overpriced like others, do yourself a favour and grab an i30.

2009 Hyundai i30 SLX Wagon 1.6 turbo diesel

Summary:

This is a good value mid sized wagon

Faults:

Trip computer is hard to access and appears to be inaccurate.

Nothing else - great car.

General Comments:

Available as an auto only in the SLX, and only a 4 speed when some of its rivals are offering 5 or 6 speed autos.

Bought this as a replacement for our much beloved Peugeot 307 touring wagon, and haven't been disappointed.

Well thought out layout inside with plenty of room.

Lots of torque from the little diesel motor, pleasant to drive.

2007 Hyundai i30 SR 2.0L petrol

Summary:

Comfortable, economical and thoroughly enjoyable!

Faults:

Nothing has really gone 'wrong' as such. Is yet to have its first service, but items to be looked at include:

* Slight creak in divers seat.

* Occasional creak from the hatch area.

And that's it.

General Comments:

I thoroughly researched this car before buying it. I test drove a Mitsubishi Lancer VR as well as the i30 SR. The i30 killed it for quietness, performance and interior presentation. The Lancer was plasticky and noisy in comparison.

I never would have considered a Hyundai before the i30 came along. Hyundai has come a long way, and this vehicle shows why Toyota is so worried about them today.

The interior is high quality, easy to use and very comfortable for a car in this class. I do a lot of long distance driving and always feel relaxed when not only driving this car, but when I reach my destination.

The stereo seriously thumps if you want it to (the SR in Australia comes with amplified speakers, unlike lesser models) and the A/C is FAR better than my old Commodore, and my work Mazda3. Speaking of which, the i30 is quieter than the Mazda as well, more nimble and again more comfortable.

Fuel economy wise, over the last 12 months I've averaged 8.5L/100km. Not too bad for an automatic petrol model.

It's time to stop ignoring Hyundai. They are up there with the best of the Japanese brands believe me!

2008 Hyundai i30 SX 1.6 turbo diesel with safety pack

Summary:

This is my 19th car, and the first one to tick all the boxes!

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

First impressions after 1100kms:

I bought the i30 for the five star safety of ESP and six airbags, five year warranty and the economy - the torque was an unexpected bonus. It zooms up hills, has plenty of power to overtake safely, yet the diesel engine is very quiet.

The radio and CD are both excellent, and it has so many storage places, even one for sunglasses. The front and rear wipers work really well, I love how it sprays instead of squirts on the windscreen.

I have driven it on wet and dry dirt roads, gravel roads, in torrential rain, in the dark, on freeways and in the city, and it handles really well in all conditions.

I easily did over 1,000 kms on my first tank, despite driving in lower gears than I normally would to help the running in.

I am the original poster with an update.

I have now done 5,000 kms. It does over 1,000 kms on a tank before the warning light comes on. 5 L/100kms. Still very impressed with everything about it. The only other car I would swap it for is the i30 estate (wagon) which is not available here yet.

2008 Hyundai i30 SLX Hatch 1.6 turbo diesel

Summary:

Still believe I made the right choice buying an i30 diesel SLX

Faults:

No faults with car in the first 6 months of ownership.

General Comments:

Has the torque of a large four cylinder or small six.

Amazingly economical.

Solid feel on the road with well weighted steering and a well appointed interior.

Excellent value for money with few weaknesses and many strengths.
