1995 Mazda Eunos Presso 1.5 litre petrol

Summary:

Great looker, wicked handling, but underpowered

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

This car is very reliable, has average fuel economy for its size (7.6km/litre round town, 13 long haul), and has quite poor acceleration for a car which is styled in a sports vein (0-60MPH in 15 seconds).

On the positive it handles brilliantly and sticks to the road like glue - it may not win any races, but it really feels like a sports car.

Build quality is fair, but rattles quite a bit.

It has heaps of boot space and the rear seats fold down to give even more, although it isn't really practical to have people in the back seats for any longer than about 5 minutes due to lack of room.

This car is a poor cousin of the Mazda MX-5 (and MX-3) Get one of these if you can instead, but if you need some extra space this car might do. Avoid the 1.5 litre version if you are interested in performance and find a 1.8 V6 - the worlds smallest V6 (at the time anyway).

The Eunos Presso is the same as a AZ-3, and has the same body and interior as the MX-3.

1991 Mazda Eunos Presso 1.8 V6

Summary:

A good cheap fast sport car!

Faults:

Part of the suspension was loose and cost me $190 to fix.

Clutch needed to be tightened.

General Comments:

This is the fastest car I have ever owned, personally all sports cars should be manuel and with my car being manuel it gives it extra power.

Would prefer to be rear wheel drive, but it is front wheel drive so be careful when going around corners fast, be on full concentration.

Mazda Eunos Presso are 1.8 V6 24 Valve so have lots of power, on the negative side having such a powerful motor are not economical so do not buy one of these cars if you are not willing to pay out on petrol.

1991 Mazda Eunos Presso 1.8 V6

Summary:

Groovy and seriously a stunner

Faults:

Air intake blew just as I got it. Rust in the sunroof and doors, bald tyres. That's all I can record.

General Comments:

My car is a high performance chicks car. It's black and has sounds such as a Pioneer headunit and sub.

I want to make engine modifications such as turbocharging it. I have just fitted a pod filter and sounds just like a Nissan Skyline.

1992 Mazda Eunos 500 2.0 V6

Summary:

A comfortable, nippy car, but still good for family

Faults:

CV Joint knackered when I bought it - reconditioned for about NZ$150 I think.

Rear brake caliper seized at 145,000 km - hand brake was locking on and normal braking was pulsing - failed WOF and cost about NZ$400 to replace.

Head gasket leaking oil at 150,000 - replaced by friend for about NZ$250.

Auto transmission went at 154,000 (yesterday) - cost NZ$2150 to replace.

Rocker cover gasket leaking a bit now - need to replace (though they are about NZ$65 each!!). Hopefully will pass WOF today!

General Comments:

Nicest car I have owned, despite the expenses so far.

Pretty quick too, though I would like the manual gearbox for the added control sometimes.

Wouldn't dream of owning in UK due to insurance prices, but since moving to NZ, insurance is about $300 fully comp.

Very comfortable, drives well. Take away the problems and I'll be happy!

I am doing an NCEA assignment. I need to know how much petrol did the Mazda Eunos 500 1992 car use per kilometre?

A urgent and quick reply would be much appreciated.

I would have to disagree with you sorry, these cars are horrible, I know 2 people who have had them and have had nothing, but trouble, they are very nice luxury cars, but they have a lot of trouble with them, I do not recommend to anyone!

How much (at most) would a head gasket cost to replace?

Thanks a lot.

Hi.

Had a '94 Eunos 500 manual in Melbourne, Australia.

Must say, it was the most reliable car I've owned (for 3 years) - very comfortable, stylish and relatively frugal; approximately 25 - 30 mpg in varied driving conditions.

The paint also peeled on my bonnet, although unsure whether from careless previous owners leaving it out in the hot Aussie sun - resprayed and no subsequent problems.

Only sold when moved to Perth and bought a Mercedes 420SE, which although relatively uneconomical, has been reliable and good for the long, straight roads here.
