1992 Mazda Eunos 500 2 Litre 6 Cylinder

Summary:

Nice to drive on long trips

Faults:

My automatic transmission blew at 105000km. Cost NZ$2600 to replace.

Replaced cam belt at 105000km - NZ$200.

New brake discs fitted at 85000km.

Worn seats.

General Comments:

I use my Mazda for my work and do approx 3000 -5000 km every month.

It has been very reliable, except for the blown auto transmission.

The stereo system is a Sony CD unit. A must for those long trips.

The car handles most road conditions with ease and feels safe and secure in all weathers.

It is very comfortable and functional for my work purposes and I would not hesitate to buy another Mazda Eunos in future.

1993 Mazda Eunos 500 2.0 litre six

Summary:

A beautiful car aesthetically, smooth, comfortable, which would be sensational with more power

Faults:

Large tear in the rear leather seat.

Power steering squeals constantly.

Brakes squeal constantly.

Petrol fumes noticeable when the air conditioner is used on a hot day.

Halogen lamp in a headlight needs replacing.

Significant paint damage, front bar and bonnet.

General Comments:

The car is drop dead gorgeous, much more beautiful than Mazda+'s current lineup.

The 2.0 litre six is underpowered, especially on hilly terrain.

Nonetheless the engine is rather thirsty, especially when driven hard.

Automatic transmission sometimes confused about selecting when kickdown is initiated on a steep hill or under load; for example, it selects low for a second with a big surge of revs, then drops into second. This is due to lack of torque from the engine.

Handling is competent, but rather soft.

Seats are reasonably comfortable.

Excellent driving position.

Excellent visibility from the car.

1996 Mazda Eunos 30X Sport 1.8 li 24v V6

Summary:

Sporty, quick and affordable, yes it is possible

Faults:

The plugs gummed up the first week.

General Comments:

It didn't seem to have much power. Then I changed the plugs, the exhaust and the intake, and now it's a different car.

I noticed that the plugs seem to gum up if you don't hit high revs enough. The hotter plugs helped, but more for performance.

I love this car and I am very happy with it. It's a nice looking competetive sports car for a portion of the cost.

The worst is the availability of performance parts. I now have 140kw at the wheels, but it didn't come cheap. The exhaust was a big bonus to sound and power, but cost $1500aus. The intake was $2500aus. A lot of money, but it is an added bonus.

The intake was the best part. Custom designed with 6 independent throttle bodies. It needs another computer which is the expense, for you need to remove the airflow meter and replace it with a manifold pressure sender.

If you are looking at buying one do so as soon as possible. Yes they don't have the best economy, but a few dollars spent and it keeps up with most cars around my area.

Would be good to get an update on how your car is performing since 2001??
