1979 Mitsubishi Lancer LC 1.6

Summary:

Good sports styled car for first car buyer

Faults:

The automatic choke stuck open at 70000 kilometers. However was cheap to fix only $100.

General Comments:

A fun and easy car to drive as it has responsive handling, good gear ratios and brakes.

The Lancer has a pleasing amount of power although being small and reasonably low it might feel more faster than it is.

I recommend the 5 speed manual as it has exelent gear ratios which allow it to pull well up a hill even in 4th gear. Mine was originally 3 speed automatic which was good for its age and the size of the engine, but nowhere near as good as the 5 speed gearbox which I got out of a Chrysler/Mitsubishi Sigma.

Also the instrument panel is good adding to the sports feel of the car.

1979 Mitsubishi Lancer LC 4G63B 2.0 DOHC 16v EFI

Summary:

Well worthy of the last 13 years of ownership, and I'm looking forward to an electric conversion!

Faults:

I blew the original 1600 head gasket at about 400,000km. I decided to replace the entire engine with a 2 litre twin cam from a Japanese Galant GSR, running an aftermarket management computer. It all still runs through the original (unmodified, non-overhauled) gearbox and diff!

Killing the old motor was the best thing that could have happened. With the twin cam doubling the power at the rear wheels it is absolutely awesome!

General Comments:

Brilliant car, fun to drive, comfortable to drive, and very, very fast (with the new motor!). This car has travelled from Mebourne to Cape York and back- a couple of times.

1979 Mitsubishi Lancer GL 1.4

Summary:

A great low performance first car

Faults:

Radiator had to be re-cored at 174000km.

Slight tears in the upholstery.

The brakes are very soft.

General Comments:

This is an excellent little car.

It is very gutless.

The brakes are a definite area that needs to be replaced it you are considering purchasing this car.

Also, a new engine is recommended.

Most lancer engines will fit in, including the 1.9l turbo version.

1979 Mitsubishi Lancer LC 1.6

Summary:

A reliable, fun, small, cheap sports car!

Faults:

My Lancer actually has a Colt motor which is very similar. The engine is getting reconditioned at the moment (March 2002) but the only thing that went wrong with my Lancer until a month ago is the starter motor needed replacing. It only costed me $45 Australian Dollars because many Mitsubishi parts fit on it for example my starter motor is off a L200 (van) and any other engine parts from Colts and Gallants fit. This is the first time the engine has been reconditioned in 23 YEARS!!!

General Comments:

Very cheap to run and big fuel tank for long trips.

Comfortable Seats.

Great rally cars.

Feels like you are driving an aeroplane because of all the dials and gauges!

Back seat folds into bed!

Very good duco! I've seen LC Lancers in the wreckers still with good paint jobs.

Not very common for them to rust!

Fun to drive. Unless you have driven one you probably don't know how cool they are.

Going up in Value!

Hi, I have a 1982 lancer, it is fitted with a 1.800 motor,5 speed g/box,4 wheel disc brakes, and have fitted 185/70/13 kelley tyres. It performs like a dream on the open road, and is good around town. I am using 91 octane unleaded fuel. As far as fitting the 1.800 motor it was no problem as all the item fitted straight in. I have had the lancer now for 10 months and the only thing that I have had to do was time the motor which was 5 degrees out. The lancer is a nice little family car of 5 persons, OK it is a little old, but hey it is a great car still, and with no rust.

I have a Lancer EL station wagon

She has a powerful 4g12 single carb engine. From the factory it comes with 4 gear manual gearbox; recently I replaced it with a 5 speed manual gearbox.
