Went through a bottle of power steering fluid every 3-4 months due to a small crack in the column, but otherwise did not affect the performance or handling.

Car sometimes idled roughly due to a faulty fuel/air ratio sensor.

Upgraded the tyres to get better grip, but stock will suffice for the normal road user.

General Comments:

Pros:

Amazingly fast and grippy car, that eats any sedan of its class off the lights and through the bends, with stock parts.

When not fanging about, will barely use any petrol; can get 800km from a full tank with Tiptronic gearbox.

Never replaced a single thing.

Roomy; can transport 5x 6'2" people with ease and room to spare.

Amazing durability in the event of a crash (SUV pushed me into a telegraph pole at high speed, and I survived the crash; make sure the dashboard is properly secured if you fiddle with sight and/or sound).

Faults:

The "D" globe on the dash blew.

Rear hatch struts needed replacing in the last year.

Battery replaced 3 times in 11 years.

Windows have leaked from day 1.

Windscreen wiper reservoir plastic has perished, and now leaks.

Paintwork is is becoming blotchy/spotty in places, despite regular washing and waxing.

General Comments:

This car has been a delight to own since day one. The car is approaching 200,000 km, and is only just showing signs of age! Paint blemishes, exhaust problems and some minor mechanical issues aside, this has been the best car purchase ever.

BUT - every time the windows get wet, they leak, either from rain or washing. Having the unframed glass press against the rubber seal on the car body, is a strange design, that was sure to leak if the seal isn't perfect.

It's interesting to note that these days, safety is a main consideration when buying a car, yet when I bought this car, I didn't care that it had zero airbags, no traction control etc. All the mod cons were there, and with the seats folded down, it was cavernous - far more important than safety (at the time).

At nearly 15 years of age, it still feels like it could pull a train.

Faults:

After having the air conditioning regassed, the Magna had issues idling without the A/C running. Not sure what the cause of this issue was. It may have been due to the battery being removed. However, after adjusting the 'Speed Adjustment Screw' (SAS) - throttle stop - it has not given me any trouble since.

General Comments:

The manual 3L V6 combo is fantastic! Great performance for a 13 year old car.

It also looks great, mine being finished in red, and the previous owner looked after it well, so no fading or blemishes like other examples of Magnas out there.

I have have many people ask where I have bought my car and how new it is.

The manual is slick to shift, and can be left in 5th from 40km/h, and will accelerate on flat to minor grade roads no problem.

1st gear is low enough to walk through car parks without any throttle input.

Fuel consumption is low as well. I get around 7.1L/100km out on the open road, and 9L/100km in town, with an overall average of 8.2L/100km with my work commute. So 600+ kms from a 71L tank is easily achieved.

Turning circle is bigger than expected, but having driven an AU and BA Falcon, and a VS and VE Commodore, there isn't much between them. Plus the Magna is the most pleasant to be in.

The boot is huge!

The interior finish is of high quality, as there are almost no squeaks or rattles, and I live on a dirt road.

Driver's seat is the most comfortable car seat I have sat in. A 900km day trip, and I was able to get back into the Magna the next day without any soreness or tiredness in my back.

The factory spec size tyres are too small (205/65/15) for the Magna's potential, and the inside front wheel can easily be spun when turning a corner and accelerating (especially in the wet!)

Overall, I think the Magna is a great car, and it's a shame that the Magna range was canned.
