1983 Mitsubishi Scorpion GL 2.6 Astron II

Summary:

This car is cool..

Faults:

Blown heater by-pass hose. (Closely followed by cooked head).

Broken rear universal joint.

Indicator switch has a five second delay for some reason...

And what is with those dodgy mag wheels! (You know, the square inside a circle)?

General Comments:

I really like this car. It only has one bad point to it, and that is a lack of spare parts in wrecking yards.

It now has a manual 2.6 Astron manual 5 speed that acts like it has power band. 1st, 2nd and third gear suddenly gets a whole lot more power at around 3,500 RPM.

Interior is rather spacious and very comfortable. And the shape of the body makes them look fast even when they aren't moving.

1979 Mitsubishi Scorpion GH 2.6 petrol

Summary:

Hot coupe on the cheap

Faults:

Blown head gasket.

Dash pad cracking.

Rust in sill panels.

General Comments:

The time frame of having the car is a bit misleading. I bought the car in 1985, sold it in 1988, and then after finding it in the newspaper, I bought it back in 2003.

The faults that have happened to the car, happened after I got the car back. Fitted a new motor from a Mitsubishi Triton truck that still used the 2.6 motor.

Have loved the look of the car since I was 15 years old (40 now), and now that I have it back, it's mine till it falls apart or I die.

I'm hoping to replace the dash pad, and one day convert it fuel injection. Trying to find someone who converts the Magna manifold throttle bodies to the other side.

1980 Mitsubishi Scorpion GH 2.6lt Astron

Summary:

Hight performance gas street machine

Faults:

None to mention at the present other than a small whole of rust developing in the base of the current muffler.

General Comments:

My scorpion is running on a direct gas setup with no petrol running through it at all. has a custom made lynx manifold also hooked up with twin Webber carburetors. interior is in immaculate condition, cream and tanned brown with beige lambswool seat covers back and front. the gear knob is custom made with a scorpion in it. it has 15x7 and 15x8 Simmonds V4 rims on it. they are hugged by Pirelli p6000 tyres, 205-50 at the front and 245-50 at the rear.

1983 Mitsubishi Scorpion GJ 2.6L Astron

Summary:

It's a beast

Faults:

There was significant rust in the box sills and B pillars. Also, there was rust around the boot seal.

The driver seatbelt was frayed and very expensive to replace.

The timing is very badly out.

The Scorpion's suspension is very wobbly.

General Comments:

The car is extremely quick. I managed to drag off a Commodore police vehicle off the line. I doubt whether he was trying though, and I was pulled over by him.

The car runs a 21 second quarter mile in its current condition, which contains no performance modifications.

1983 Mitsubishi Scorpion GL 2.6L

Summary:

A cheap, good performer

Faults:

A part in the distributor needed replacing.

Part of the driver's seat is broken.

Dash starting to crack.

Paint fading on roof and boot.

Has broken back light coverings due to being hit by Celica driver.

Rust at bottom of rear quarter panel.

General Comments:

When I bought it, it had just had its motor rebuilt. While being rebuilt it had TR Magna pistons put in. It also has over sized valves and an oldish sports exhaust. It has a pioneer CD player with pioneer 6.5 inch speakers in the front and Alpine 6 x 9's in the back.

It is reasonably fast and can beat most other four cylinder car of around the same age. I believe it can probably beat reasonably stock six cylinder commodores up until the VL.

1979 Mitsubishi Scorpion gj astron 2.6 litre

Summary:

Performance car for cheap

Faults:

The clutch and pressure plate were in pretty bad condition when I bought it so that cost me a few dollars, but that's all that has mainly gone wrong plus a few sets of rear tyres.

General Comments:

The car is pretty quick for a 2.6 litre, pumping a nice 83kw from standard, they also do good burn-outs. the handling is alright with a comfortable three and a half turns from lock to lock, it also has the bonus of four wheel disc brakes.
