1979 Mitsubishi Sigma SE 2.0 litre
Summary:
I will always keep and drive this car. I prefer it to my Rolls Royce
Faults:
Head gasket at 300,000 km.
Again at 520,000 km.
Timing chains at 200,000 km.
Auto at 175,000 km and again at 650,000 km.
All shocks, alt bearings and brush set, thermostat and coolant every 200,000 km.
Water pump at 160,000 km and at 600,000 km.
Have always maintained car well, with preventive maintenance being the key to no breakdowns ever.
I fitted GH Sigma front strut discs and brakes at 550,000 km, as the originals were too small. Also fitted LPG at 480,000 km.
At 720,000 km I overhauled the engine. It had no wear except the oil control rings were almost non existent and some wear on the big end bearings. It was as clean inside as a new engine. Have never touched the diff.
General Comments:
The car now has 848,000 km on the clock and still drives nice and still feels tight.
I have towed extensively with this car, and done many, many long distance trips, all documented.
The factory fitted green interior is still almost like new, and being the SE variant, the car is nicer than the normal version.
I never meant to keep this car for so many years or km, but I have alway liked it.

Well what else did you expect? Not many people who spend years thrashing their car is going to give much of a stuff about the body, rust etc, are they?
If its as rolled and bowled as it sounds it's probably up the eyeballs in bog (hence the rust).
