1995 Peugeot 306 XT 1.8 petrol

Summary:

Excellent and elegant european car with easy care

Faults:

Seats and steering skin wore badly.

Have to install your own CD if you want to, because the original version did not give you a CD player.

General Comments:

- Still very reliable, even through it's been used up to 228,000 KMs.

- Timing belt lasts very long.

- Space is very good, comfortable for both passengers and drivers.

I was wondering if you had worked out the Km's/Liter of the car? Cheers.

1995 Peugeot 306 S16 2.0 16v

Summary:

It's an amazing car when it's going, one of the best I've driven

Faults:

Radiator, It leaked and kept leaking so eventually needed replacing and has been fine since.

All four coils crapped out and had to be replaced.

The muffler and exhaust system deteriorated at 160,000km.

Engine mounts wore out.

Head gasket blew.

Engine light comes on if cruising over 110kph.

Door locks have worn out, has to be unlocked from passenger side.

A/C label on button came off when I pressed it one day : (

General Comments:

This car has exceptional handling! Beat a holden club sport on the race track. New 16 inch rims with low profiles helped a lot.

Its quite a quick car too for a 2 litre non turbo. It has good over taking power.

It can be economical depending how you drive it. (500km per tank)

Comfortable leather interior very stylish. It has a brilliant factory stereo system!

However the only let down are the mechanical troubles it's had. Thousands of dollars put into repairs and also the little things that go wrong with this car.

1995 Peugeot 306 S16 20i 16v

Faults:

Rear main oil seal only $33.00 +$850.00 to fit!

Rhf sway bar link rod + front control arms $ 550.00 oh yer new clutch kit $640.00.

And petrol cap spring went to.

All disc rotors and pads $1000.

General Comments:

I think the 306 s16 is a great car.

Fast enough flys through roundabouts pulls the girls too.

Sounds good with a big pipe.

Seats are great mate!

Black is best too.

1995 Peugeot 306 XT 1.8 petrol

Summary:

Drive one to find out what a front drive car could handle like

Faults:

Drivers seat rattles badly. It also moves a touch under load. I find this very annoying.

Sometimes the clutch feels like it is struggling.

General Comments:

I love the way it points into corners.

It had some very marginal cheap tyres on it when I got it. Didn't seem to matter, though. The handling is phenomenal. Combine the smooth ride with the handling prowess and its the best feature of the car.

The seats are first rate being comfortable and supportive.

I recall reading press reports that this model was slow in a straight line, but I cannot agree with that. It is brisk without being a GTi.

I'm not fond of the dash layout, but who cares once you turn it into a bend?

A word of advice on cheap tyres for this vehicle. Rear drum brakes for this model are poor and the front tyres cannot transmit the braking power to the road. My car 306 has locked up countless times even with more expensive tyres and at quite crucial times, even on dry roads, resulting in one or two near misses. Spend the extra few quid and buy decent tyres.

1995 Peugeot 306 S16 2.0L 16v

Summary:

Hot euro hatch, fun and style

Faults:

Hard to replace driver's side lock barrel (after a thief attack).

One of the ignition coils went.

One bulb blew... that's it.

General Comments:

Very quick, keeps up with Integra Type R's and standard WRX's.

Takes most cars around bends, but lower it 30mm, no more, and fit Pirellies.

Could use a bit of colour inside though, and needs a CD stacker.

Pulls the chicks easy...!

I have had to replace two ignition coils since I have owned it from brand new.

Could be a common problem with an S16?

I have a nasty nocking on mine on idle its fine, but rev in to 2000 and it starts do you no anybody who has had the same problem.

1995 Peugeot 306 S16 2.0l 16V

Faults:

Second gear and synchro replaced after 1000km, ECU replaced, body welded to stop creaking noise, engine fault light illuminating randomly, sunroof replaced, rear wiper intermittently works, sensor for climate control replaced, receiver for infra red remote replaced, minor oil leaks from engine around oil filler.

General Comments:

Excellent handling and ride - pity about the brakes.

Australian models seem to be detuned and lacking power.

Once initial problems fixed has been an excellent reliable car for long trips.

Local dealer in Adelaide was next to useless at repairing faults.
