1972 Peugeot 504 2000 121ci/ 2.0
Summary:
As Peugeot would say - Engineered to be enjoyed...
Faults:
Head gasket @50000 miles due to corrosion.
Common gear box leak @ 61000 on selector shaft housing wear.
Exhaust repairs due to thrashing.
Clutch replacement due to drag racing against Volkswagens.
Suspension and rubbers due to 30 years of wear.
General Comments:
This car is a serious rocket at 110 mph.
It is capable of 0-62 in under 10 seconds even though it is very standard.
On gravel the all-round independent suspension with its long travel really pay off. Not to mention even better handling through narrow city streets with its sheer braking power.
Long trips are quite enjoyable due to the above reasons and also the lounge chairs that Peugeot left in the car at the factory.
Working on the car can be quite straight forward unless you attempt anything major, like a clutch replacement. I love hoisting engines in and out of cars!
The torque tube around and drive shaft makes the the drive train a solid assembly from the block to the diff, adding to the robustness of this thirty year old bullet proof pursuit car.
Visibility is good with no significantly bad blind spots.
All round, quite an enjoyable drive.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Yeah, I agree with the previous comments. I inherited my Peugeot from my father. Absolutely one of the best cars ever. Its suspension beats for comfort and handling just about any car made since (that I've driven). Not the fastest in the world, but then in most traffic and touring situations, does this matter? I found the original Solex carby a real hassle, engine would run unevenly, stall etc; but when replaced by a Weber, no problems. I had this car for years, then made the mistake of passing it onto my son, who wiped it out in a big one about one year later. I still have very fond memories of that 502, including the very light, but low geared steering (good exercise) and the incredibly comfortable seats.

1972 Peugeot 504 - They say the DS23 is the goddess, but this must be the prince! After a long run of French cars, this vehicle would have to be one of the best vehicles I have owned. Gorgeous suspension, and now with new tyres (albeit generic brand) it can take on Commodores and Falcons. The car is forty years old, but the suspension and engine still hold up! Every day driving is a pleasure.

It is a car to Enjoy, it does not have to much acceleration, but when you pass by the 60 mph it is very fun to drive and is very easy to handle.
