1977 Porsche 911 Targa Carrera 3.0 Flat 6

Summary:

Phenomenal classic, I can see why 911 drivers won't buy anything else

Faults:

2 minor oil leaks.

Snapped sway bar mount.

Broken windscreen wipers.

Replaced warm up regulator.

Required some overhauling when purchased, but offset by low cost of purchase - things such as suspension and brakes.

Occasional leak from Targa top.

General Comments:

This is an extremely quick car, very few cars match it on the road. Amazing considering the age.

Extremely free revving engine that absolutely sings above 3500 RP M's.

Handling is excellent once you over come the snap off throttle oversteer, which if you're not careful can seriously scare you should you lift off the throttle in a hard turn.

Extremely comfortable and capable car.

The most engaging vehicle I have ever driven, you almost become an extension of the car.

Transmission and shifting takes a while to get used it as it is quite clunky and can be vague when you initially use it.

Interior might seem a bit bland - though it is just simply functional.

Body work has held up well after 26 years.

2001 Porsche 911 GT2 3.6

Summary:

I am happy to say that I am one of the few to own this car!

Faults:

I knocked the sunroof with my hand while it was shutting. It blew some fuse.

It is a VERY expensive car so I am not expecting much to go wrong. After all it is a German car.

General Comments:

The first thing I would like to say about this car is it has none of the annoying niggles that my old Maserati had. Things like a leaking sunroof and non-functioning climate control and power windows are a thing of the past. But, the ambience of the interior, I am sorry but the Porsche does not come close. I miss those lashings of wood veneer.

Secondly, THIS CAR IS FAST, IT ALMOST RIVALS A DIABLO!

Top Speed: 315km/h (Yet to be tested, I will get to Northern Territory and test it though).

Acceleration: 4.1 sec (0-100km/h) (0.1 sec slower than a Diablo).

Torque: 620Nm (Same as a Diablo!)

Power: 340kW.

There are features in the Porsche that I personally didn't expect like Electric seats. I thought that the aim was to keep weight down but obviously not. It isn't stripped like a Lotus Elise (sorry to all you Elise lovers).

I can't emphasise how fast this car is. UNBELIEVABLE!

The GT2 is my dream car. I just wanted to know whether there is much lag from the twin turbos? I've heard varying stories on this matter.

From memory, I believe the GT2 is rear wheel drive. Is this frightening to have to control? Obviously with all that power, the rear of the car isn't always going to be, shall we say, hungry for grip?

Thanks for the review :)

Interesting that your vehicle came with electric seats AND a sunroof. Did you buy the vehicle for its exclusivity or performance?

1973 Porsche 911 E Coupe 2.4 litre

Summary:

Selling it was one of my worst decisions ever... and there have been a few of those!

Faults:

Fuel pump failed.

Window winder mechanism jammed.

And that's all.

General Comments:

A wonderful car that I should never have sold. A true driver's machine. Terrific performance due to the engine mods I had done: 2.2S pistons & barrels, Abarth exhaust, new synchros & sway bars.

Lithe handling, incredible brakes (helped by its weight of only 1075 kilos)... a delight. It was my daily driver for 10 years, and saw a fair degree of track work as well in Porsche Car Club events. And oh, how I miss it. I'm looking for another right now.
