1990 Subaru Legacy RS Type R 2.0 turbo

Summary:

It is awesomely amazing, and I will definitely be buying another one

Faults:

Clutch blew, but was very worn when I got the car.

Had to replace all seats as they were very worn, also for want of better comfort and style from 1994 RS twin turbo Legacy.

General Comments:

Very very quick car, every STi I raced I won against, smoked off 2.5 turbo Skylines.

Once I replaced the seats, the car was extremely comfortable.

When I put Koni shocks with aftermarket springs in, I noticed the car handled extremely well, stuck to corners really well, and was able to do some 50km/hr corners at 160km/hr.

Unattractive as standard, but with a custom bonnet with a WRX scoop (I put a WRX air intercooler on) and lowered on Advanti racing wheels, it was a beautiful looking car, and definitely had the power to back it up.

1990 Subaru Legacy B4 RSK 2.0 4 cylinder turbo

Summary:

Without a doubt, awesome

Faults:

Cambelts - genuine thing to be fixed! also had water pump & other things replaced at the same time.

General Comments:

If you've not owned a Subaru before, then you don't know about the amazing handling they have. My B4 is lowered, and still handles like a dream, without the bumpy road effect from having lowering springs in the car.

I was lucky enough to buy the car from a Subaru specialist, who kept the car in the most pristine condition, up-to-date services & what not. It really shows when driving my B4 compared to others.

I have the leather package in the car with after market chrome trimmings, and although the interior is rather boring, the cupholders in it are amazing counting 6 in total. The car only seats 5!

Turbo lag is a genuine problem as well as the gearbox being a bit gummy, with 1st gear only operational when the car is either stationary or extremely slowed down - My B4 along with 3 others I've driven have this same problem.

They are rather fuel hungry, but if they're driven without your foot being slammed to the floor, $30 fuel can last 3 days.

1990 Subaru Legacy RS 2.0 turbo

Summary:

A High Performance Vehicle needing High Performance maintenance

Faults:

All four front CV Joints replaced.

Lifters shifted causing a bent Valve and the Head required Bolting to fix.

Rear Suspension replaced.

Thermostat Froze and needed replacing.

A tooth in the Gearbox broke, replaced entire Gearbox.

General Comments:

This car is a great car for handling and speed.

Needs constant maintenance and tuning.

Replacement parts have to be genuine and are expensive.

The cabin itself is large for the size of the car, and well set out.

Quick off the mark and doesn't seem to die going up hills like other Japanese cars.

Why do parts have to be genuine?

Dude it's a 10 year old awd turbo vehicle, replacing CVs is normal.

Breaking a tooth is usually caused by fatigue and in the Liberty turbo most likely caused by flat changes, replacing the gear can be done cheaper than replacing the whole gearbox.

Frozen thermostat, 10 year old car, my 16 year old civic had one replaced 2 years ago.

Rear suspension, once again original suspension is usually shot by 10 years.

I don't think its fair to bag a 10 year old turbo sedan for normal wear and tear.

Lifters shifted? More like the timing belt slipped a tooth, caused by worn out tensioners or belt not at right tension.

If you have normal springs etc it's time for an aftermarket set hahaha. Who wants a high car anyway?

1990 Subaru Legacy GT 2.0 Litre turbo

Summary:

A solid, well engineered vehicle with handling and performance to shame other more expensive makes

Faults:

I had to replace 4 lifters and a camshaft, but it was due to a poor service history prior to purchase.

Replaced all brake rotors, but no doubt due to enthusiastic driving and towing a bike trailer (quickly!) occasionally.

Replaced the sunroof seal as the sunroof stopped opening.

General Comments:

I am honestly astounded at the reliability and performance offered by a 2.o litre station wagon, especially after getting out of a large capacity V8.

Having owned this car, I am definitely a 4wd covert for ever, especially with a family in tow.

Long trips are done with ease and comfort and the build quality having come from a Holden is incomparable. This car has quite a few km's on it, but serviced properly, keeps giving reliable, fun transport. It is thirsty, but it is driven with performance in mind.

The interior for a 12 year old car lacks nothing (all electrics, cd, electric seat) and there is abundant space for 4 adults to comfortably undertake a long trip.
