2002 Subaru Liberty GX AWD 2.0 litre petrol
Summary:
Great reliability; shame about the prices for parts
Faults:
Since purchasing the car in late 2015 after our previous car was written off, the only things we have needed to get for the Liberty are as follows:
New battery.
4x new tires.
Rear struts for suspension, and getting front ones before next WOF/pink slip in December.
General Comments:
So we purchased the car in October 2015 after our Falcon was written off due to an accident I had with my father in law. My wife saw the Liberty on the internet, took a look at the yard and picked it up the next morning.
Overall it's not too bad to drive, although at times is somewhat underpowered, especially when travelling up hills and windy roads, although I will admit that it is very sure of itself with good rubber between the car and road.
Comfort isn't too bad over a long distance (400KM), and fuel economy isn't bad either considering the engine size relative to the weight and size of the car.
Being a Subaru, servicing can be somewhat on the steep side, but if you find a decent local mechanic rather than going to the dealership, it's worth saving the hassle, as for a simple job the dealer wanted to charge me $350 and I got it locally for $120, so a huge saving in that regard.
My wife now loves her Liberty and says that she would purchase another one in a heartbeat... it's quite reliable, and when you have long travels to get much of anywhere in NSW, reliability is the one thing you want over anything else.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Sounds like a blown head gasket, apparently common on the 2.5L.
