1978 Toyota Crown Super Saloon 2.2 Litre diesel

Summary:

Great luxury economical car

Faults:

Front two electric windows stopped working.

Hand brake light was permanently on.

General Comments:

It was a great car ahead of its time though. Handled well and very economical, but lacked in power. Top speed of 120 km per hour.

1984 Toyota Crown MS123 2.8Lit FI petrol

Summary:

Big, heavy comfortable reliable and unbeatable

Faults:

Nothing yet.

General Comments:

The Crown is not a car for everyone. It's performance is steady rather than spectacular, especially around town. On the open road, it's a different animal altogether. The weight that makes itself very apparent in town becomes an ally on the highway, providing inertia that helps the car return reasonable fuel economy.

The ride in all conditions is luxurious and quiet and all Crowns, regardless of year (I've owned a few) are usually better appointed than their contemporaries. Probably the most underrated (and therefore best value) Japanese car on the road, but you need to understand them to truly appreciate them.

1983 Toyota Crown MS123 2.8 Fuel Injected

Summary:

Someone should take advantage of the money we invested in new parts

Faults:

Alternator in 2006/7; new one fitted

Air conditioner 2006/7; new gas type fitted

Rebuilt engine fitted in 1999; done very little work

Power steering pump renewed in June 2007

Radiator replaced a few years ago

Dash cracks hidden with artificial flowers

New white wall tyres, April, fitted 1996.

General Comments:

Another car was pushed into the back of my car, which caused damage to rear bumper and boot floor. Car written off by insurers, but in my opinion is far too good to wreck.

1990 Toyota Crown Royal Saloon G 4.0 Litre Quad Cam V8

Summary:

The car is a great luxury cruiser

Faults:

Battery was flat when car arrived in Australia because it had sat in a yard in Tokyo for about 2 months.

General Comments:

This model of Toyota was never sold in Australia. It is mechanically similar to the 1990 Lexus LS400. The four litre quad cam V8 is absolutely fantastic. It has very consistent power delivery and it does not make a lot of noise. The 4 speed auto is quite responsive and it doesn't hesitate to kick down a gear or two under hard acceleration. Overall the car is very well made and it has every luxury feature possible. The reclining rear seats are absolutely fantastic. The car also has a TV Satellite navigation, 8 speak sound system with CD Player, electric front seats, fridge on the rear parcel shelf, adjustable air bag suspension, dual zone climate control, digital dash and ABS. Overall I am very happy with the car so far. The car is effortless to drive and it turns a few heads. I would appreciate any feed back from anyone else who has the same vehicle in Australia. me email is cleider18@hotmail.com.

Crown v8,

I am currently looking at purchasing this exact model, wondering what your fuel consumption is like? The motor seems powerful considering the weight of the vehicle. A fantastic VIP cruiser!!

My partner has the 3lt six cyl. version (2JZ) and it too is an awesome luxury cruiser with every conceivable extra. I would very much recommend it. Cruise Control is very accurate and won't let you speed. The 3lt is OK around town, but rather economical on the open road.

1976 Toyota Crown CS 2.6 Carburettored petrol

Summary:

A unique Japanese cruising machine

Faults:

Blew up gearbox

Brake Booster failed in 1994

Interior cracks and deterioration

Rusts around back boot and window area.

General Comments:

You cannot kill the motors in these cars, absolutely bullet proof.

Watch out for demon rust that attacks the window areas.

The interior is quite comfortable and feels quite cozy.

Look for a fully imported model, they are less likely to rust (due to less time sitting in yards with just undercoat for protection), also the imported auto vehicles were equipped with the Toyoglide 3-speed instead of a weak Borg Warner transmission that was probably intended for the 4 cylinder variants, not the six.

Otherwise a nice big car.
