1990 Toyota MR2 Sports Car 2.0 petrol

Summary:

The ultimate best car for a single person

Faults:

Car needs to be serviced at least twice a year to maintain the high standard.

There is a very limited amount of storage space. The boot is small and not much can fit behind the seats.

It is definitely not a family car, most suitable for a single person or maybe a couple.

Checking the oil can be very awkward as it is situated in a hard to reach place.

General Comments:

This car is seriously quick and gets you to your destination fast.

It is reliable as well as classy.

The seats are really comfortable.

The car runs well and I have had no trouble with it.

It is a 2 seater, so no room for kids or people to tag-along.

It is a professional car and suitable for a single person.

It is an appropriate cost to use and run daily.

Excellent steering and easy to drive. Very relaxing and enjoyable to use.

Affordable reliability, performance and comfort

Faults:

HT lead needed replacing.

Exhaust gasket perished.

Noise coming from the side fan.

Red paint starting to fade on the spoiler.

Paint on the mags is flaking.

General Comments:

Good level of comfort.

Not as jumpy as the supercharged model.

Cool whine when the turbo kicks in.

Familiar MR2 handling.

Out of luck if you want to install heaps of car audio.

1990 Toyota MR2 GT-TRD 2.0 turbo petrol

Summary:

A tiger in sheep's clothing. Don't underestimate it!

Faults:

Flat battery from leaving the courtesy door lights running (my fault!)

Nothing else yet, bar the usual tyres, oil filters and regular maintenance...

General Comments:

Goes like stink. Mine's a Jap import and has most of the Toyota Racing Development mods, but never having driven a regular GT, I don't know how much difference it makes.

Will eat a Starlet GT for brekkie, scares a Merc Kompressor to death and have outrun an Imprezza WRX, although that may be due to the other driver's ineptitude, not either car!

Handles well but is crap on wet greasy roads.

Noisy and tiring on long hauls.

Next to NO luggage room-use only squishy bags as nothin else fits !

Not that economical- 12k per litre around town and 14k on the open road. Drinks the higher octane juice and is therefore pricey to feed (also uses pricey oil).

Have to replace the cam belt shortly before it goes bang and guts the engine.

The Toyota 3sge/te engine that these cars have are non-interference engines, so if the cam belt breaks it won't mess the engine up, you just take off the broken belt and put a on a new one and its good as new.
