Faults:

Front tyres wore quickly.

Foot pedal handbrake took some getting used to - and rubber pad has slipped off the pedal and 'disappeared'.

Somewhat of a 'blind spot' in driver's forward vision with large side mirror and heavily molded quarter window making vision poor for cornering.

General Comments:

Very reliable car - would recommend it to anyone needing the extra seats - worth the extra money. Fuel consumption is high, but it is a large car.

Previous model (1993) we had for 13 years and 200,000 km - very reliable and low maintenance. Nothing major went wrong.

Heavy sliding doors now have magnetic catch to stay open - much safer for off-loading passengers on hills. Lack of second rear door in 1993 model was a problem. Now fixed.

Rear seat reconfiguration options not as good as 1993 model, but still makes large space for transporting furniture, bikes etc.

Very comfortable, very roomy.

Faults:

Front wheel bearings collapsed at 161,000km. Cost $400 to replace at Toyota dealer.

Brake booster leaked, causing hard pedal, at 167,000km. Cost $700 to replace.

Aircon compressor seized at 172,300km. Not replaceable in VXi for some reason.

Water pump collapsed at 180,000km.

Cost an astounding $1300 to replace.

Ran well until 205,000km, then automatic overheated. Too expensive to fix, but it still drives OK. Won't select reverse when cold. Upshifts very abruptly with a loud clunk.

Alternator failed at 213,000km. I give up!

General Comments:

The car now sits unregistered in my carport. It has become far too expensive to keep on the road.

My family and I have been severely inconvenienced by this car on so many occasions, it's no longer worth having.

When running well, it's an excellent car and has seen many long trips with no problems at all.

Performance is adequate for this type of vehicle.

Please avoid high-mileage tarago's of this series.

Faults:

Nothing really.

General Comments:

Really well behaved.

Motor doesn't miss a beat.

I live in the hills and the car has plenty of poke. I just don't use it.

Economy 8km/l city, 10k/l country. Not good until you compare to others.

Interior is fine, not fantastic.

Space inside is great.

Can stick a couple of adult bikes in back with only 1 rear seat folded up.

Toyota don't build junk. 2nd tarago I've owned and if kids weren't getting too old would buy another. Got rid of last car after 460,000 ks. This one not showing signs of age

Faults:

Small plastic white vacuum filter found under seat near carby. This is attached to a thin black vacuum hose. When this fills with oil, and it will, your car will run like crap. It will stall all the time and use lots of fuel. If you remove it and clean it with methylated spirits every 5000kms your van will run like a dream.

Contacts in starter motor needed replacing as well as bearing in starter. Cost only $150.

General Comments:

This van is great for the family. It has more room in the back for a pram and stuff than most other PMs we looked at.

The cost of buying one can hurt.

A V6 option would make those hills less steep.

It does feel like you are driving a big car rather that a van, until you drive on a bumpy road, then its like a gentle bull ride.

Faults:

-Water pump replaced

-Catalytic converter and muffler replaced

-Leads replaced

-fuel pump replaced

-Alternator replaced

-Fan clutch replaced.

General Comments:

Other than the above, this car has had to have no major work done to it. The 2L engine is a fair performer, but won't win any races and tends struggle a little up hills, although the overdrive switch helps it along.Doesnt blow smoke or show any signs of dying despite the KLM's its done. Mine has an automatic transmission and has never missed a beat.

The handling is excellent haveing a large turning circle.

Body wise it has stayed in practically new condition which is surprising for a 20 year old car! no rust and no signs of paint fade.

The interior is good , only having a couple of cracks in the dash. the seats are comfortable to. easily seating 6 in the rear with ample legroom.

The rear seats fold up against the windows, a great option if you are carrying extra luggage or even furniture.

The ride is OK for a van, but that is to be expected. better suspension helps.

If you want a affordable and reliable family van, than this is what you want! Just keeps on going

Faults:

Water pump recently replaced. was the original one from manufacture date! the alternator was recently reconditioned at $275 as it is a special kind. The catalytic converter goes every 50,000.

General Comments:

This is a great family van. The room is unbeleiveable and can be used to carry large things such as a refrigerator. The ride is relatively smooth although could do with better suspesion. The motor is extremely reliable and never misses a beat Along with the auto transmission, the overdrive really works well up hills (it is only a 2.0litre!). The handling is great and has a very big turning circle. The paintwork is still very shiny and in great nick. All in all a excellent vehicle, reliable, comfortable and affordable. I would strongly recommend it.

Faults:

Tape Deck now plays tapes too fast / chews tapes.

Some seat wear on driver's seat. I have since got that re-padded and resown.

Quite extensive repairs were done at last service, including Shock Absorbers, a repair to a hairline crack in the Radiator, various light bulbs, etc.

General Comments:

I still find this vehicle to be excellent and enjoyable to drive. I have driven the new model, and in some ways, prefer driving this one to the new one.

Faults:

Fan belt broke and the tape deck doesn't work anymore.

General Comments:

Very good power for a people mover, nearly 100kw. Runs smoothly, and has good long distance comfort with lots of space for everyone.
