2011 Volkswagen Tiguan 4motion 2.0 turbo diesel

Summary:

Good all round

Faults:

Nothing - yet.

It has a cam belt so very sure I will be changing that on time to prevent tears.

In New Zealand you have to pay a charge per KM for diesels, so when the speedo is out by 10% every 1000km you are not getting 100km, but bigger tyres solved this.

I like the parking sensors but do not want to add another screen for a camera view as well and would have to install a new stereo system in order to do this, plus the steering wheel controls may not work if I did this.

With a lot of town driving and EGR valves system meant I had to clean out the throttle control valve, - this is to be expected with town driving with a modern diesel.

General Comments:

Great car for a family of 4, comfortable leather seats, front 2 heated which makes a difference when really cold, was surprised how able the 4wd system is as I took it for a small play on a river banks with deep ruts and rough terrain, and it handled it better than I expected

Good performance, around town and on the open road, for people who know how to take care of diesels.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

100% correct - diesels are OK on short journeys, if you remember to clean the EGR valve.

I'd still recommend to anyone a long firm drive now and then to keep the DPF clear / regenerated.

2008 Volkswagen Tiguan TDi 2.0 turbo diesel

Summary:

No longer trust VW

Faults:

Throttle body seal (there is none) leaked oil into the electronics and caused many weeks of insufferable driving.

Poor visibility to B pillar has resulted in many near collisions.

Components, mainly plastic clips etc in the engine bay have failed, resulting in rattles and loose parts.

Seat components fell off.

General Comments:

The car is not 'good design'; the driving position is cramped, the controls are messy and poorly laid out, the seats cannot be located in a comfortable position, doors are heavy, boot storage is totally insufficient, headlights are inadequate, front body clearance is pathetic, engine is gutless, gear change is rubbery, visibility is hopeless.

I thought much of what is incorporated into cars these days was the result of many years of design effort and reliability testing. NOT SO THIS CAR!

If you're thinking of buying one of these, good luck!

Did you not test drive this car first? Most of what you said would have been discovered by taking a test drive first!

If the car indeed was so poorly designed, how on earth did you not notice it when you were looking at it to buy?

If you had a leaky valve that caused 'weeks of insufferable driving', why didn't you take the car in and get it fixed right away and save yourself some anguish?

Plastic clips? How difficult could that be to fix.

Pretty fishy review...
