2005 Volvo XC90 T6 3.0 Litre

Summary:

Should have listened to users on Car Survey

Faults:

Tranmission 3 times.

Weird noises (clunks when turning).

To replace the wiper blades, had to replace the whole wiper unit, as parts were not available ($780 for 2).

Turbo box cover cracked ($600).

General Comments:

Should have listened to all the reviews on Car Survey, but got "emotionally" attached to the Volvo.

Just problem after problem with reliability.

Also thirsty (knew that when we bought the car, but petrol prices were not that high at that time!!)

Last time we had it in for repair, were been told things will get worse with Volvo!!!

Sorry, you are taking your car to the wrong garage - you do NOT have to replace all that to change wiper blades!!! Should have bought a D5 version - that is a far better car with almost faultless reliability (gearbox issues are on T6 models generally) and mid 30's MPG - one of the best cars made.

2009 Volvo XC90 D5 AWD 2.4 turbo diesel

Summary:

Good, sturdy, powerful offroader, with heaps of room

Faults:

Nothing; 100% reliable.

General Comments:

This car really drives well, with lots of power and good handling. Great safety, and tons of room for the whole family. I love the extra seats in the boot, and even with them up, there's still a large amount of room for luggage.

I am very happy with the purchase I made. I have owned a lot of station wagons/SUVs, and this is the best.

Thank you Volvo.

Lots of little things. In the workshop regularly.

2003 Volvo XC90 T6 2.9

Summary:

Should have been recalled and rebuilt

Faults:

New engine at 50,000kms due to burst coolant hose. $9000.

Transmission failed at 67,000kms, $7500 to repair.

Four new Pirelli tyres per 15,000kms.

That's the main things. Plenty of expensive other stuff, and weird, unexplainable noises and creaks.

General Comments:

Love the car, seating arrangement works well, and the kids all fit in well. Hate the dishonesty and denial of Volvo. And hate that I'm going to have to ditch the car before I have to face yet another transmission fail. I paid $54,000 for the car second hand, and have spent over $17,000 on this car in three years. I can sell it for around $28,000 if I'm lucky.

Car was serviced by Volvo previous to my ownership, but as my best mate is a mechanic; I take it to him. Volvo now have disowned me, as I have not used them for 3 years, and won't help pay for my transmission. I'm in the process of researching what I can do - who will help, legally, fair trading etc. If I find a way, I will post it. Meanwhile, list your issues on the Volvo Facebook page, under Discussions. That's their website, and they should be reading all this info from us re the recurring problem of transmission failure.

If you haven't used the main dealer for servicing, it will invalidate any manufacturer's warranty. End of.

Would not by another one; can't wait to get rid of it

Has already had a new transmission put in, but it was before we bought the car.

General Comments:

Good luck with your next purchase! If all problems you have had (on a 7 year old SUV with 120K) is what is listed, you need something much better than usual. I mean do not think about GM or Toyota...
