1988 Honda Accord EX 1.6 carb

Summary:

Reliable car that seems to run forever!

Faults:

Power antenna is jammed.

Both front springs broken at 210,000 km.

LEDs and lamps in the ventilation control unit went dark.

Seat belt lock broke on passenger side.

General Comments:

Not the fastest car, but the 1.6 engine still runs like new. Consumes no oil.

The power steering is very light, which I like very much. The gearbox still feels like new.

It is a very comfortable car to drive, and it is spacious. Even adults can sit in the back seat without problems.

Consumes 7 liters per 100 km, which is OK.

In my opinion it doesn't run well on bumpy gravel roads. Maybe the shock absorbers are worn.

Has no rust yet, even if this model is known to have problems with rust.

Low cost, but needs some work

The engine lost oil pressure on the way home, probably due to a failure in the oil pump.

The front passenger hangs due to rust damage to the pillar supporting it.

General Comments:

Runs nice when it's running.

Didn't cost much (20 €)

Nice color (Metallic Red)

1989 Honda Accord EX 1.6 petrol

Summary:

A good looking car

Faults:

Front brakes.

Front springs.

General Comments:

Reliable, comfortable and economic car. Steering is light and the engine is still running smoothly, giving no hints about getting old. Compression pressures are still at setup value and exhaust gas values are perfect. Starts well in cold wind and weather.

Some rust and oil leakage however. Replaced some consuming parts, windscreen, exhaust pipe, cooler and front springs. Gas tank hatch was frozen once in the gas station, and did not open. By using an hear dryer, it was opened.

1988 Honda Accord EXi 16v DOCH 2.0i 16 DOCH

Faults:

Couple of joints and a spring broken, brakes jammed.

Driver's power window and antenna jammed.

Headlight wipers won't work.

Lots of rust.

General Comments:

Though it have had some suspension problems, it has been very reliable car.

Rest of the problems have been mostly cosmetic. Heater is great in Finnish winter and it starts in -27c degrees on the first attempt, even if it has been parked for 2 days. Leaves every teen BMW behind in a race.

Are you sure it is a 16v DOHC? How much horse power does it have? I have a 2.0 SOHC 12v, it is good, but what is the engine type that you are running?

27th Oct 2001, 09:18

Yes. It had the same 16 valve engine as the 88 Prelude, and had 136hp. This model was sold only in Europe and Japan.

Yeah that's true the DOHC engine DOES exist, a friend of my got a JDM engine which had the same engine displacements, but was a twin cam.
