1987 Nissan Sunny LX 1.6

Summary:

Cheap, reliable beast of burden

Faults:

Rear bearings replaced.

Speedometer vibrates a bit (+/-3km/h)

Pump of front window washer replaced.

General Comments:

VERY reliable car indeed! Has never failed me and starts always at first try.

Naturally little corroded, (Here in Finland they use lots of salt by winters...) but still in good condition when compared with other as much served cars.

This car hasn't been expensive to keep and drive. Fuel consumption is moderate (keep age in mind!) and eats no oil. Everything works as they should to. It has no special features and it really isn't so 'cool', but for my ideology (to reach place c from place a and perhaps stop at place b between a and c whenever I want to) it's perfect one.

1989 Nissan Sunny SLX 1.6

Summary:

Overall a good car

Faults:

The power steering was leaking when I got the car, had to replace the steering gear.

I have also replaced a ball joint and the CV joint rubber boots, but I guess that's OK considering the mileage.

There is some rust already.

General Comments:

The GA16 (12-valve) engine is great. It's powerful and needs little maintenance (the camshaft has a chain and valve lifters are hydraulic), and even after 270k km consumes no oil. The gearbox seems to last forever, too.

The ride is a little rough, but I believe this car has stiffer springs installed. The suspension works best at speeds over 130 km/h (!).

I also like the SLX accessories, such as a nice steering wheel, power steering and tachometer. No power windows or locks on the 3-door model, though.

If I ever buy another Japanese car, it will be a Nissan.

1990 Nissan Sunny SLX 1.6 petrol

Summary:

A reliable rice burner

Faults:

My headlight washer on the left light blew at 70,000 kilometers.

Pilot's side window jammed at 100,000 kilometers.

Minor failure in the carburetor at 120,000, but it was quite cheap to repair.

Back light of original Nissan radio cassette player's display blew at 50,000.

General Comments:

Engine reacts sharply when pressing the accelerator pedal.

Beats its classmates at traffic lights.

Easy to handle, maybe a bit over-steering character.

Not too shaky at high speeds.

I like the interior design, some may call it poor, but however I like it.

Reliable winter weather vehicle.

Diesel? What do you mean?

1988 Nissan Sunny LX 1.6 12V gas

Summary:

Reliable but boring

Faults:

Motor valves exchanged at 100000km, and it's rusty.

General Comments:

It never breaks, and is a very average family car in all other aspects.

I think the Sunny is the best car in the world.

1989 Nissan Sunny LX 1.6 12v petrol

Summary:

Total cost of ownership is superb

Faults:

Minor problems with the rear suspension due to heavy loads. I am building my own house and sometimes I put 1000 kg of weight into the trailer which is 300 kg heavy.

General Comments:

This Nissan is the most reliable car I've had. Also the performance and looks are fine and spare parts are cheap. Here in Finland it is important that the car works in cold weather (e.g. -30 to -40 degrees of Celsius) and the Sunny does. Sunny is also very stable and easy to control on ice.

1985 Nissan Sunny DL diesel

Summary:

Reliable ram

Faults:

The motor of the car is in extremely good condition, but sheets have started to rust on it.

It is a bit inefficient.

General Comments:

Good buy, I got it for free and I am very happy, because diesel is cheaper than petrol.
