1997 Lancia Kappa SW Break 2.4 TDS diesel

Summary:

Pininfarina built character

Faults:

Central locking doesn't work.

Alcantara seat wear.

General Comments:

For a cheap replacement of an Alfa 164 TD (insurance), it's an exceptional buy, very rare in the estate version, comfortable, reliable, 5 cylinder diesel with a great engine note.

It isn't a car that asks to be driven quickly, but is capable of a 1000km at high speed or driving in the countryside. It's very assured in cornering. It's actually my wife's car and she loves it. There's a lot of room in the boot. A great car.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Interesting looking cars, had to do an image search to remind myself what they look like, been a while since I have seen a Lancia Kappa. Good to know they can reach high mileages (especially the diesels) always heard they were unreliable, but most people I knew who had one said they were actually OK cars and reliable enough if cared for.

Definitely classifies as reliable if the only issues after 230,000km are that the seats are a little worn, and you can’t lock the doors. I’d take those in a second for any car that’s gone that distance.
