1997 Citroen Saxo SX 1.4i

Summary:

Best for it's price, good work commuter

Faults:

Seat very uncomfortable, a small back pillow could help. Expected from a car 8 years on the road.

Air circulation unit apparently chronic issue in these cars, the gears grind and the unit stops working. Easy to set though in circulation mode.

Make sure they change your suspension to a quality one - it makes all the difference in the world (when time comes).

Annoying little electric problems which are easy to solve.

General Comments:

Good car for such a low price. It's very economical at 15km/l average. Cheap maintenance. Got 3 adults in the car going a long steep uphill with a/c on at 90km/h on 4th gear. Can't get any other car these days at this price that has 2 airbags, original a/c, good comfort, power steering, economy and lots of power+handling.

Original owner, nearly two years later:

Saxo now has close to 150,000km.

Apart from power steering control unit acting up ($20 to fix), aircon compressor failure ($400 for upgrading the whole system) and replacing the rear brake cylinders ($50), the car runs great and is still very economical.

Anybody looking for cheap transportation should consider this one. Just make sure to leave out the 1.1L and automatic versions which are sub par. The 1.4L and 1.5L are good choices; the 1.6L is for the sportier crowd.

Summary:

Makes you smile

Faults:

Nothing. Great car!!

General Comments:

It's not a real Citroen; it reminds of the Peugeot 106 (same car, different badge) thus - great car, great performance.

My car has been very reliable, and has perfect handling. By adding Koni shocks, Sparco springs & and OMP strut, it feels even better.

Great buy - fun, fun, fun car.
