1989 Subaru Legacy RS-RA 2.0L turbo

Summary:

AWD turbo fun

Faults:

Currently needs only prop shaft carrier bearing changed.

General Comments:

If you can find a good used first generation Legacy or Liberty Turbo, it's a great fun car. I have owned a few other Legacy Turbos, and this is the best one.

There are other great AWD turbo cars, but few can compare to a Subaru. Colin McRae made this car famous and helped put Subaru on the map.

One ride and you'll understand what makes a Subaru a Subaru.

1991 Subaru Legacy L Gasoline

Summary:

Great car. I would hate to part with it.

Faults:

Tires had to be replaced @ 135,000 miles.

Hatch does not open easily. You have to lock and unlock it a few times first.

When you use the a/c, the air is cold, but water builds up under the passenger side floor mats.

Looks old considering it's been 15 years since it was built.

So far that's it.

General Comments:

This car is great! Since I moved to NYC, I didn't need my '96 Mazda 323 anymore so I sold it. A few years later, I landed a 2nd job, which is inaccessible by subway. So my mechanic friend hooked me up with a nice, cheap car to take me out to Long Island 3 nights a week and so far, no major problems. The tires needed to be replaced at 135,000 miles which is understandable and the hatch doesn't open easily though it does open after a few locking/unlocking maneuvers. The air conditioner is ice cold, but I sometimes find that the floor mats on the passenger side were wet after driving around for 3 hours with the AC on. Overall, the car was well taken care of by the previous owner and everything works perfectly. The radio's still good, and the defoggers, power windows, power locks, and wipers still work like they're brand new. My little car starts up easily even on the coldest days and it has never given me problems when I'm driving in snowy/rainy conditions. I would recommend this car to anyone who wants a reliable mode of transportation.

1994 Subaru Legacy GT 2.0 Twin turbo

Summary:

Beautiful cruising car

Faults:

Front brake pads had to be changed. Extensive oil leaks in the engine had to be fixed which cost a lot of money.

Drivers door skin loose and rattled a lot.

Air flow sensor-VERY expensive.

General Comments:

An absolutely great car to drive! It really was nice and a great cruiser. Performance was OK, but these are not light cars so there was some sluggishness. Great for over-taking and highway driving, but not so great for heavy city driving. The biggest thing for me was the fuel consumption- terrible. It was hard to enjoy the car when you are constantly checking the fuel level. Also the fuel tank was too small for long trips, max distance was only 300km. Maintenance was very expensive as subaru's are hard to work on. I loved driving my car, but would not get another one.

1992 Subaru Legacy Rally Sport (RS) 2.2 Litre turbo

Summary:

I love this car, very dependable, it is a machine requiring upkeep to keep it up

Faults:

After racing many ,many times, have found that I needed to replace the clutch, but this was a needed replacement anyway, just waited till absolutely necessary to do it... see, the engine needs to be lowered to change the spark plugs, so, I figured I would change to a high performance clutch, platinum spark plugs, improved wires and HKS intake and breather with Blow-out valve...

General Comments:

This car handles extremely well, previous owner I purchased from took very good care of the car... I am going to change to 17" racing rims with low profiles for better grip... this car is very fast totally stock, have raced WRX's in Japan and found it to be competitive, due to bigger engine, but they have more stock mods.. with a few mods and improvements, say lowering a bit, it will surely run the line faster.

It's a pain in the butt and I had to make my own spark plug boot puller, but I didn't have to lower the engine to change plugs. (98 dohc 2.5L) Although It would make things a lot easier :p.
