1993 Ford Probe GT 2.5
Summary:
I am still happy of my Ford + Mazda Probe
Faults:
Replaced blew valves cover gasket (it leaks oil).
Replaced alternator because blew semiconductors gate and wires. Voltage begun float from 11 volts to 16 volts subject to engine RMP. Low RPM - low voltage, higher RPM - higher voltage. So I must replace alternator. I replaced it with used, but normal alternator. One day later I heard some buzz noise and voltmeter drops to 12 volts at IDLE RPM, but over 1000 RPM voltage becomes normal (about 14 volts). I asked car electric man for help, but nobody knows whats a problem. We decide to replace alternator's belt tensioner bearings, but buzz sound survive. After this I decide to do nothing and drive my car as usual. And today voltage drops down sometimes at IDLE RPM, but over 1000 RPM it restores to normal position.
Replaced accessories belts and tensioners bearings (one for alternator and A/C, other for water pump and steering pump).
Replaced one rear shock absorber. It was frozen in winter and not moved at all. So I musted to replace him immediately because one wheel damp only on tire and I couldn't drive my car. Other shock absorber need to replace because it wear out and has no effect for suspension.
Replaced rear stabilizer rods because I heard knocking sound from them.
I re-glued passenger's side quarter window because I heard knock sound and it leaks water through crack between window and car body.
Replaced braked pads.
Replaced headlamp bulbs (3 bulbs in less than 2 years).
Replaced supporting bearings of both front shock absorbers because they made nasty knocking sound when turning steering wheel.
I repainted alloy rims because original paintwork was corroded.
General Comments:
In general I have no very much problems with my car. Ford Probe reliability is acceptable for me. This car is 1/3 Ford (body) and 2/3 Mazda (suspension and engine). So if I have some problems with my car I go directly to Mazda service always. Also I couldn't say anything about true Ford reliability because all basics in Ford Probe (suspension and engine) are from Mazda.
Prices of spare parts and labor isn't very high. Price of labor become higher when need to reach strange places of engine. 2,5L V6 engine is really big (I think so). There are no free space under hood.
Ford Probe is very comfortable car for two persons (driver and one passenger). Comfort is acceptable for three persons (driver and 2 passengers). If there are more people inside, then trip becomes pretty uncomfortable.
Cargo space is good. There are enough space for bags even for long trips.
My Ford Probe is plain red color. Maybe paintwork isn't very reliable so I need often to polish my car for nice body look. Otherwise body paintwork enough quick becomes dull and whitish (especially roof and hood).
I like sound of my car stock exhaust system. It is soft and quiet. Of course sound changes when I push accelerator deeper, but on IDLE it is very nice for my ears.
I love green light for instruments. It looks so nice.
Ford Probe is my first personal car. I have it almost 2 years and I am still happy of my choice.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
