2004 Chevrolet Optra 1.8 A

Summary:

Value for money if you don't mind the fuel consumption

Faults:

Timing belt snapped at 6000 due to loose belt guide inside the engine. Fortunately covered by warranty. Engine head, valves, belt & other associated parts had to be replaced.

General Comments:

Solid built, attractive body design & lots of spec thrown in (dual airbags, leather seats, ABS on 4 wheels, CD changer with MP3 capability, etc). However fuel consumption is very high; can only do 8 km/Ltr. (NB: Brochure stated 10 Km /Ltr which is not true).

Wonderful car, worth the money spent

Faults:

Battery failed after two weeks.

Throttle position valve misfunction, as the result, car sometimes jerks when shift from R to D.

Interior color is light, easy to get dirty.

Annoying tickling noise coming from inside the door panel of driver side.

Most probably due to some loose nuts or bolts.

Bad after sales service, they don't know much of the car. Also car manual not updated, some of the things mentioned different from actual.

General Comments:

Nice to drive and comfort.

Superior handling capabilities.

Good over-taking speed, excellent pick-up.

I'm sorry of what you had to go through. But I won't agree with that the car is lousy. Mine is fine and so so many others. You just had some small minor problems and the root cause of your main problem is bad after sales service. I do hope somebody could notify HICOM about this.

2004 Chevrolet Optra LT 1.8

Summary:

Solidly built for those who think of safety for the family

Faults:

The auto transmission jerks sometimes when swifting from N to D. Wind coming through the driver side window when the car is traveling above 110KM.

Only one remote control key. Spare key is without remote control. Even my old Citroen's spare key come with remote control.

General Comments:

Fuel consumption higher than what it was stated in the brochure. Currently I am getting about 7km to a liter compared to 10km to a liter stated in the brochure.

Handling is perfect, ride is comfortable. Very stable when travelling above 120KM/hr. Lots of leg and luggage space.

Very good audio system (Blaupunk) with 6 speakers.

Actually fuel consumption stated 10liter per kilometer in the brochure states for highway. I own a Optra 1.8 too, I get 7 to 8 liters per 100 kilometers on city roads and 10 to 11 liters per 100 kilometers on highway, keeping in mine the r.p.m was in the 2000 to 3000 range. Jerking from N to D is setback for this vehicle, it occurs sometime. Few other setbacks leather seats are sort of brown color easy to get dirty. Alarm system is just a basic one, could have been better. Rest is really wonderful for this car, good buy.
