1982 Datsun Laurel C31 2.0 Straight-6
Summary:
A classic Datsun that beats the likes of a modern car
Faults:
Practically nothing! A very reliable car (like every Datsun).
Had to replace minor wear and tear parts like water pump, brake shoes, and rubber lining around doors and trunk.
Body started rusting badly inside the trunk near the rear-left light cluster. Caused by water leaking into the trunk due to worn rubber linings. All rust is patched and treated now after a new coat of paint.
General Comments:
Very comfortable car, minimal engine and wind noise even at high speeds. Consumption around 26mpg.
Quiet engine, no problem starting on mornings, never overhauled although the overall distance has topped 280,000Km.
Still can cruise up to 160 Km/h. Straight-6 engine delivers 110hp.
Quite difficult to find spares, had to import rubber linings from Japan.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I can vouch for this car. I bought my first Datsun Laurel C31 in 1989 with 126000km on the dial. I overhauled the engine on 380000km because it was smoking. All it really needed was a set of valve stem seals! It now has 730000km on the dial. I still drive it daily in city and open roads.
I bought a second Laurel in August 2006 for spares. It had 230000km on the dial. It was not necessary to strip as everything was in perfect working condition! I now have the two of them running daily.
I must get a third one for spares now, but as I know these cars I most probably end up with three daily runners.
Can anyone tell me where I can get hold of headlamps and tail lamps for this Laurels?
