1971 Toyota Corolla Deluxe (KE20) 1.2 carb

Faults:

Nothing much!

OK, worn driver's seat.

General Comments:

Very, very reliable and tough. Requires very little maintenance. Parts were easily available.

Nippy 1.2 litre OHV engine thanks to manual gearbox with low overall gearing (4 speed only). But gearing is too low for highway cruising - engine spins at highish rpms at the legal limit. Quite economical.

Mediocre ride, handling and steering and brakes.

Easy to drive in urban conditions.

Spacious interior despite being RWD.

A good basic motorcar for its time. Replaced by another Toyota Corolla in 1986 (the EE80 Liftback with 1.3 litre 12 valve engine).

1973 Toyota Corolla KE-20 1.3 petrol

Summary:

Good for beginners and those who are interested in Japanese classics

Faults:

Common to all cars that has been driven over these years and beaten by the weather, it rusts even after paint-job.

Radiator needs to be filled once a fortnight for less than 250ml.

All 4 steel rims have been badly dented, but still runs straight.

General Comments:

A damn bloody good car for anyone who needs a car to drive after receiving his/her license.

However, don't expect to get attention driving this car to college or University.

Full tank lasts about 2 weeks for city driving.

One helluva reliable car that will NEVER breakdown.

My orange 1973 Toyota Corolla is now, but a happy memory, but it ran flawlessly for 160,000+ miles and then I gave it to my sister who piled another 30,000 miles on it... even through tough winters in Buffalo, New York. The rust was terminal, but it still ran strong and did not burn ANY oil!

When going around to junkyards looking for the best price, all the scrap guys offered me the same: $50. When I told the last guy that this car still ran strong and didn't burn any oil, he took the cigar out of his mouth and said: "Kid, these cars are ALL like that."

Every once in a while, that car rolls into my dreams and always makes me smile.

1996 Toyota Corolla GLi 1.3 petrol 16v DOHC

Summary:

Reliable and well built-in

Faults:

No much thing need to be repair for this second hand 7 years car.

Air con and water pump

Bottom Engine mounting

Water Container (Wiper Part)

Brake Pad (Front and Rear)

Engine Tuning.

General Comments:

This is 1,332cc car only, engine is 4E-FE 16V EFI DOHC (same with Starlet Turbo Engine)! Not for fast and speed, but for comfort and stable ride. High speed, the engine will rev 3K rpm when reach 100KM/H, a bit noisy. Cheap to maintain, parts are almost compatible with previous corolla. Excellent fuel economic and good power for such 1.3 to support heavy chassis. No regret!

Toyota Corolla - unreliable car, it should be pronounced Toy-out-ya. I now own a Nissan Sunny.

Well, this Toyota Corona 1.6 GLI 1996 car outside looks not too bad. But I think the design must be something wrong somewhere. Especialy as you can feel air is coming in from the window, even if you only drive at 80K/H. So, Toyota should do something about it.
