1996 Geo Tracker LX 1.6 petrol

Summary:

Practical, inexpensive and tough

Faults:

Some noises.

The transmission was overhauled at 140,000 kms.

The water pump at 165,000 kms.

And spark plug cables at 120,000 kms.

General Comments:

Fascinating car for poor surface roads.

Extremely good for flooded roads in countries like Mexico.

Very easy to fix, easy to park and inexpensive to maintain.

This car was built following the philosophy like those legendary vehicles as the VW Beetle, or CJ Jeep or MB 250 that say: strong, simple and inexpensive.

1996 Geo Tracker

Summary:

Love it!

Faults:

Nada, nothing, has gone wrong. It had been well maintained and was in cream puff condition when I bought it.

I don't care for the back window bar on the convertible top, it limits access. I would recommend a removable hardtop over the soft top, but I love the ease of folding back just the front section for a 'moon roof' exposure. Have never bothered to unzip the whole thing; seems like that would be too difficult and it's way too dusty where I drive anyway.

It's a little noisy, but mostly from rattles from the hard use I put it to.

General Comments:

I'm a 59 year old single woman, and I love my car. Purchased it in Phoenix, AZ, USA and drove it down Mex 1 to my beach palapa there, where it is my only vehicle now.

It's reliable, it's fun, it goes everywhere, and I mean everywhere. It's quick. and people offer to buy it all the time.
