1991 Citroen BX Cannes 1.4i

Summary:

Comfortable and cheap!

Faults:

Ignition failed, remains in sports mode sometimes, minor problems with the warning lights.

General Comments:

Unlike the general opinion this car has proven to be both comfortable and reliable in the long run. This car can be bought very cheap due to the undeserved bad reputation. Get a model after 1988, the revision is substantial.

The Cannes model was a great succes in the Netherlands... One small mistake in this comment: the BX has the classic hydropneumatic suspension, this is superb but hasn't got a sports-setting. You must have mistaken the lowering of the car with sport-mode. But pay attention: don't drive your BX while you've set the suspension in the lowest position, this setting is only for loading heavy luggage and changing a tire, driving in this position will most certainly cause damage.

1989 Citroen BX 16 TRi Break 1.6i

Faults:

Rear arm bearings at 200k.

Hydraulic return pipe broke on the highway at 140 km/h.

General Comments:

Great car. Has 105hp as standard, and is now up to 119hp.

Love this car. Will drive it for another 100 years if possible.

1991 Citroen BX Cannes 1.4i

Faults:

As I have owned the car for about 2 months, nothing 'interesting' has gone wrong yet. The only little 'thing' was the front window sprayer (I hope you know what I mean). It was replaced free by my dealer (little operation).

General Comments:

Driving like a king with all the comfort I always wanted after having had a little Japanese car. I'm really satisfied so far. Let's see what happens at the first major service!

I hope nothing serious goes wrong with your car. I think that I am cool in my bx because they are rare motors now.

Also what has happened to the car?

1988 Citroen BX 1.4

Faults:

170,000km Thermostat.

175,000km Full set of suspension spheres.

176,000km Exhaust pipe (due to prev. broken suspension!).

187,000km Fuel pump.

190,000km Fixed oil leak around axes.

195,000km 1 Wheelbearing.

198,000km Axles worn out.

Can be fixed, but at a price... car will, however gradually develop ever more noises.

General Comments:

Keep it serviced - failing to repair in time will create additional costs, which can run up fast at any Citroen dealer...
