1978 Opel Manta DeLuxe 1600S

Summary:

Tomorrow's classic sports car

Faults:

Before I bought the car, it hadn't been driven for 2 years, so the brakes had to be revised.

I had to replace the clutch, the original one was still in the car, but totally worn.

I replaced the exhaust pipe, because it was rusty and made too much noise.

There are now a few very little rust spots (only a few millimeters), I want to let them have treated before they grow larger. Also, I want to restore a poorly-restored damage by the previous owner.

General Comments:

Although the car is 25 years old, it still drives like new. It is very comfortable and each time it's fun to drive it, but the engine is a bit noisy.

It is still in original condition: first paint, never restored, interior only with minor traces of use.

1980 Opel Manta GT/E 2.0

Summary:

An everlasting eye-catcher

Faults:

Replaced the radiator preventively, it was beginning to leak cooling fluid.

Replaced the interior carpet, because the color it didn't match the color of the seats, which are red and black.

I found carpet in the same colour of the seats, looks great!!

The Opel dealers and mechanics do not have much knowledge anymore about the Manta.

General Comments:

My car is now 23 years old, and it still looks great. It gets looks from everyone who sees it. It's still a real eye-catcher! This is my third Manta, and it still got the looks!!!

The Manta handles a bit heavier than my other car (a Calibra), but it's driving characteristics are much more down to earth than the Calibra. It's much more fun.

The Manta is a real driver's car, the car is not everyone's friend in driving.

Especially in winter you have to watch out.

The Recaro's are really super seats, and mine are still completely intact.

If you treat the car with respect, it will treat you the same way.

It has a simple and reliable technique and parts are still good to come by, at fairly low prices, but mostly not at the Opel dealers.

If you take good care of the body (rust), the car will serve you almost everlasting.

In Holland there is a very active Opel Manta Club, and the members support Manta owners in every way possible.

1980 Opel Manta GTE 2.0

Summary:

This one was almost dead

Faults:

Rust, rust, rust....

Clutch replaced twice within five months (huh?...)

Gearbox replaced.

Water came in from everywhere (roof, windows, floor).

No oil pressure (less than 1.5 bar).

Brakes had some unexplained problems.

More rust.

General Comments:

Still big fun! Relatively cheap except for extra maintenance costs. 110ps was good enough for nice speeding.

This Manta GT/E had extra spoilers and skirts and looked like it came from a very bad part of town. Underneath these skirts rust grew like hell.

A nice sin. Great in winter, and a real eye-catcher!
