1976 Renault 4 Rodeo 1.1

Summary:

Good car for mustering sheep/cattle!

Faults:

After a 4 year restoration (costs about 7500 euro) only normal maintenance.

General Comments:

Very nice car with 4WD quality and comfort of standard R4.

Nowadays very rare. Only 120 sold new in The Netherlands. Just like its concurrent, the Citroen Mehari, you can still find them in France with some luck.

I wish I had one in my current homeland New Zealand.

1982 Renault 4 GTL 1.1

Summary:

I love it!

Faults:

I completely restored the car, because the whole bottom section had rusted away. I replaced lots of parts and had the whole car sandblasted. The restoration process lasted almost 3 years, but now I have a R4 that's almost like new. Afterward I had some problems with broken handbrake cables and bad breaking calipers.

General Comments:

The Renault 4 is the most original, practical, innovative, low costs car there is on this planet. The total of 8,135,424 produced Renault 4's confirms this. Parts are easily to get and relatively cheap. Maintenance can be done by yourself.

1982 Renault 4 GTL 1.1

Summary:

A fantastic semi-oldtimer

Faults:

The clutch cable broke at 100.000 km, bad carburetter, rust and some minor things.

General Comments:

Very practical, comfortable and original car to drive.

Performance is not too bad, but certainly not fantastic.

Parts are relatively easy to get and they are very cheap.

Although not built to run on unleaded gas, it runs great on it.

1985 Renault 4 GTL 1.1 petrol

Summary:

A funny, cheap and very practical classic

Faults:

The platform slowly rusted away, it needed some welding and a proper anti corrosion treatment! But next to that, my Renault 4 GTL only got the usual maintenance (fluids, filters, spark plugs, etc.) and parts that required replacements. Only time the engine didn't start was with a worn starter motor. Very reliable car!

General Comments:

The car is really fun to drive, extraordinarily cheap, and a real joy for relaxed daily usage (yes, it is!). I'm very sorry I've sold mine, but am already looking for another one.

The reason I sold my Renault 4 GTL is that I had three cars at one time. I guess two must be enough, so I had to sell one.

Shame you had to sell your 4. We've got at four cars which are all on the road!! We have another five waiting for restoration.

We've just bought a 4 - what a funny little car, but as you say extremely good fun!!

1986 Renault 4 F6 1.1

Faults:

Replaced worn driver's seat at 159.000 km.

New gearbox and clutch at +/- 150.000 km;

Replaced Ducelier ignition at 160.000.

General Comments:

Great fun to drive; very roomy (it's the van version); incredibly cheap to own (parts, insurance, road-tax).

Might trade it in for a 70's TL or F4 if I find one as good as this F6.

1985 Renault 4 GTL 1.1 petrol

Faults:

Rust on steel panels.

Normal maintenance.

General Comments:

Owned it for 4 years and driven more than 100.000 with it yet. Car is cheap, availability of spare parts is very good and quite cheap, Dutch owners club is one of the good reasons that I will never sell the R4 GTL. Hope to restore it in a few years.
