2004 Renault Megane Privilege Comfort 1.9 DCi

Summary:

Far better than I had imagined

Faults:

Nothing yet.

General Comments:

I have been pleasantly surprised by this car. It is the Grand Tourer edition (Estate). I previously have only ever had German cars, but due to company policy was forced to choose French. The performance (120hp) is very good for a diesel, and acceleration is also good. The cars are trimmed in half leather and the general layout is well thought out, with some nice touches (integrated rear blinds, cooled glove box etc.) The factory navigation works very well and not in the least bit irritating. My only niggle is the amount of technology this car relies on - Key less system, door sensors etc. I will see how reliable it turns out to be. I have only had it 6 weeks.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

2000 Renault Megane RN hatchback 1.9 diesel

Summary:

Very reliable, yet not a sparkling performer

Faults:

Hasty recharge of a flat battery damaged it. So it broke down.

General Comments:

Very reliable car. Never turned me down, always got me home safely.

Good chassis, hugging the road like glue.

With 44kW (60 HP) still goes 175km/h (195 downhill) due to low air resistance.

Nice 1st gear, good for city traffic.

Beyond 3rd gear power drops sharply, acceleration is gone.

Smooth looks at the front, ugly backside.

2001 Renault Megane 2000 Coupe 2.0i

Summary:

Unreliable

Faults:

We bought a Megane 2000 Coupe 3 years ago with the first 2000 motor. After a few months, it started cutting out for no reason and refused to start. Once it was in a Renault garage in Germany for 3 weeks before they were able to start it - they didn't know why it eventually started. Because Renault were unable to locate the problem they eventually changed the car. After less than a year, the new one starts missing very badly. Changing the whole injection system helped for one week...

After going to several dealers and the importer without them being able to solve this problem, we were reliably informed by a Renault source that there is a known design fault in this engine, and that it is now out of production.

The current owners sitting with this problem have no solution - Renault France respond by just saying - 'clean the injection system' which doesn't help...

Who else has experiences with this engine???

General Comments:

How can a Renault leave their customers with a design problem, which makes the car virtually unsellable and just basically say 'hard luck'. This is unbelievable...

This is a problem that even the worst manufacturer should accept responsibility for... but Renault - no way!!

Mine has the same problems with the injection. The car went back to the garage today after it's been there for 6 weeks.

I am surfing for Consumers' rights. There need to be someone able to help us.

1997 Renault Megane Coupe 1.6

Summary:

Great looks, great driving, much comfort

Faults:

The engine head failed when I just bought it. Probably due to the driving style of the previous owner. Repaired in guarantee.

The electric windows sometimes fail due to weak connectors on the switches. These are easily repaired.

General Comments:

The car is easy to drive and very relaxed. It is more comfortable and has more space inside then you would expect from a small sports car. But then, it is just a family car with a fancy body on it.

The handling of the car is great! You can drive it round corners and roundabouts with almost frightening speeds with great ease. The 1.6 engine is a bit weak under 3500 revs.

Fuel consumption is a bit high on normal roads, but on the motorway it is less than much other cars, even when you are driving fast.
