Faults:

Changed Timing Belt & Water Pump as expected.

Replaces Radiator due to corrosion.

Changed breaks, rotors.

Replaced Front & Rear CV joints.

General Comments:

I bought my '94 Audi 100 Quattro used from an original owner @ 213,000km. I am now at 398,000km (yes! that is Three Hundred and Ninety Eight THOUSAND kilometers) after 2yrs of ownership.

Although it came with the repairs and maintenance expected for a high mileage 12yr-old vehicle - Timing belt/water pump, breaks, rotors, rear & front CV joints and replaced the radiator due to corrosion. Rear CV joints caused violent steer-wheel vibrations @ 120km/hr - this took a while to diagnose, but as soon as it was replaced, all was good. Majority of the repairs were stuffs overlooked or ignored by previous owner.

I change the oil every 8,000kms as advised by the dealer. Always used synthetic motor oil.

As stated in other reviews, heater fan makes whining noise after half hour of driving or when I get into a bump.

Also, a little sluggish from a stationary position, but once the horses start to move, you are in for a treat. This car drives like a dream.

We get a lot of snow in Canada and the Quattro is just a charm in dealing with the winter driving. There are other vehicles in the household - Pacifica, Odyssey and Benz (rear wheel drive) but everyone wants to drive the Audi especially when it snows.

Love it so much, drove it all over from Toronto, Canada to Maryland, Buffalo, Detroit, Penny, Washington, Montreal, Quebec etc.

Annual average spending on maintenance & repairs is roughly $1050.00 Canadian dollars (based on my receipts for the past couple of years). I have always dealt with the dealer so this amount may be lower if there are any other trusted repair shops around.

Get yourself one...you'll never regret it. ;)

Faults:

I am 16 years old, and my dad owned this car before I did. He bought this car in 1999. Since then, a fuel line broke at about 150,000 miles, but was a quick repair. The heater fan squeaks after about a half an hour of use. Other than that this car is virtually good as new.

General Comments:

This is definitely a luxury car. My dad now owns a 2004 A6, and this 100cs has nearly every same feature. Although it lacks quick acceleration, this car has great power at high speeds. Flying down the highway at 75 mph is when this car is at its best. The deep wood grain trim is blends beautifully with the fine Audi leather and the configuration is very well laid out. While most of my friends spend time and money with new sound systems, with this car I don't need that. It comes equipped with a top of the line Bose premium sound system, that includes a sub-woofer. I would take the interior of this car over most of the new BMW's and Mercedes I have seen. (I work at a garage.) This car has a lot of miles on it, but it is a reliable car.

Faults:

Slight whine from the transmission - it's no big deal, and doesn't seem to be getting worse.

General Comments:

I must say, this is a mighty fine car. I just love the styling and comfort.

It's okay in stop and go traffic, could use a bit more punch off the line, but I'm not complaining.

It's absolutely excellent on the highway. Very smooth at 70+mph, and seems to have plenty of power at speed, where most cars seem to lack. For the weight of the car, it handles quite well, and the suspension, even with 120k+, seems like quite a good mix for both comfort and handling.

The interior is laid out very well, and is quite comfortable. Pretty much everything in the interior still looks and functions like new, even after 10 years; something I can't say about most 2-3 year old cars I've owned.

The AWD is great! Never even slipped a wheel in deep snow or ice.

Parts are VERY expensive for this car if you buy them from a dealership or from your mechanic. DO NOT do this. Online parts houses will have parts for a third of what the dealership or a mechanic will charge (e.g. dealer wants $200 for water pump, OEM German part is online for $60). Find a good place like autohausaz.com or force5auto.com.

Faults:

The timing belt was replaced as a preventative measure at 95,000 miles. This is normal, but relatively expensive on this car at about $800US. The water pump was replaced at the same time - again as a preventative measure (included in the $800). The car started to hesitate under acceleration at about that time and that ended up being a coil problem. The replacement coil was expensive - about $300US.

Other than that, the only problems I have had are that the power door locks on the drivers door and the trunk get very unreliable in cold weather. I have decide to just live with it!!

General Comments:

Not very fast from a standing start, but a great freeway cruiser with plenty of power in reserve for overtaking. Loves to cruise at about 75mph. Fuel economy is about 24mpg (US) for this type of driving. Good, safe handling. Good in snow on Goodyear Eagles, but would probably benefit from true snow tires. Has been very reliable. Still looks good. The interior on mine is fabric and the seats and carpets are showing very little wear. Lots of passenger and trunk space.
